Great podcast to listen to! Steve Hansen on the Land Podcast

I agree. Major change of the game was cell cams. They're cheap and most everyone who has a farm runs them or some sort of camera. Literally every good genetic buck is being watched by someone

    Deer feeders

I've got (2) "All Season" brand 2500# feeders I run on my KS farm in remote areas I don't go in but to fill them up. They're like 3-4 years old now and still look new. Some deer don't mind eating out of them but for sure, some mature bucks just avoid them all together.

    CRP Mid Contract Change

They might allow it but you would probably have to buy back the acreage you want to change. Example, you want to buy back 10 acres and they paid out $150/acre every year for 5 years of your contract. You would need to pay back $7500 they paid out to you, plus any cost share they paid to help put...

Latest podcast: Keep Iowa Great & HABITAT!

It's sad. The politicians pushing this garbage can't see past their nose. Pretty easy to see how good it once was and with the regulation changes they have made drove it into the ground.

Latest podcast: Keep Iowa Great & HABITAT!

The pioneer of fighting back against the lobbyists and special interests! You truly are making a difference Skip and like sep said above, I think it's rubbing off on others and gaining traction that the lousy run states that surround Iowa, don't have to be like they are.

    Cash rent farmer

Pretty sure it does count but maybe not for 5-7 years of straight alfalfa. I had a farm in Lucas a few years back and had broke out some ground to farm it. Wanted to get crop history going and was going to put some of it back into CRP when eligible. Was HEL ground, and they wanted me to rotate...

    Kansas general question?

I've had a few farms along the Eastern tier of the state. T Max hit it on the head. If you want to tree stand hunt like the midwest, stick to no further West than central part of the state and more East tier. Just like anywhere, access and neighbors are key. Big downfall I have seen is amount of...

    Land prices / insane!!!

Big part of it, IMO. I said this a while back in this thread....... ""Another thing I don't think gets taken into consideration much when people see high prices is the 40% (give or take) of inflation and reduced value of the dollar. A $3500-4000/acre farm a few years ago is now $4900-5600 farm...

    Game feeders

I have a couple All Season 2500lb. bulk feeders in Kansas and they work pretty well. I also have a couple redneck 500lb feeders that are decent, but get chewed on because the tubs are plastic. I would go all steel construction if you plan to have it a while.
