2008 Big Buck Contest Overview:
- Three Categories – Gun, bow and New for 2008 - PMA Member Youth Contest.
- Enter by becoming a PMA Member, Life Member and any/all minor(s) under the age of 18 of a PMA Members will automatically be entered to win a Knight Muzzleloader from our Youth Big Buck contest.
- PMA members are automatically included in both categories and their children under the age of 18 are entered into the youth contest.
- Prizes will be paid for at the top 2 trophy's in the bow category & the top buck harvest in the gun category. Youth contest top prize will include a Knight Muzzleloader for the top gross scoring buck shot by the child of a PMA Member.
- Big Buck Contest Prizes include: Winners will select from the pool of prizes
listed below: 1st pick goes to the overall largest buck taken regardless of category, 2nd pick goes to the top buck opposite category of the 1st pick, 3rd pick goes to the largest of the remaining bucks eligible.
Contestant Rules:
- Harvested entries must be harvested legally during the 2008 hunting seasons and after contest entry.
- Winners are determined by Highest Gross Antler Score using the
P&Y or B&C measuring standards. - Because we have members from many states - this contest is not limited to only
Iowa bucks but is limited to fair chase hunts only. - An official score sheet or examination by a representative from
Iowawhitetail.com may be required to be completed for each trophy harvested and entered. - All entries must be received prior to their respective hunting season except for a delay in the archery which the deadline is Oct 15, 2008.
- Iowawhitetail.com reserves the right to inspect trophy
entries. - Iowawhitetail.com reserves the right to disqualify contestants
and their trophy’s at any time. - All trophy entries must be reported within 10 days of the harvest and posted in the PMA harvest forum.
- All trophy entries must make an image available to be displayed on

Nonresident deer drawing results: 2008 provided by Willie Suchy
There were 11,470 applications for 6,000 either-sex deer licenses. All of the quotas were filled in the initial drawing. There are no left over either-sex licenses available in any zone. The quota of 3,500 optional nonresident antlerless licenses will go on sale on July 26th. Nonresidents can check to see their results for the nonresident drawing on line at http://www.iowadnr.gov . Forty six percent of the nonresident applications were for an archery license. Forty percent of those that applied for an archery license drew a license. The odds of drawing a license ranged from 36% in Zones 7 and 9 to 66% in Zone 2. One hundred twenty four hunters drew bow licenses in Zones 1, 2 and 10 without a preference point. One hundred fourteen hunters in zone 5 and 9 did not draw licenses even with 2 preference points. It took 2 preference points to be guaranteed of drawing a license in Zones 3, 4, 6 and 7. Everyone with a preference point was awarded a license in Zones 1, 2, 8 and 10.
Fifty four percent of the applications were for a firearms license. Sixty three percent of those that applied were successful in drawing a license. The odds of drawing a license for a firearm ranged from 53% in zones 7 and 9 to 91% in Zone 8. Everyone who applied with a preference point was awarded a license for the firearms season and 48% of those without a preference point drew a license for the firearms season.
