It is time t get the word out about the IWILL. Flip the ballet and vote yes in November. http://www.iowaswaterandlandlegacy.org/home.aspx Make a donation! Passage of this Amendment to Iowa's Constiution will ensure sustainable funding for Iowa's DNR should an additonal penny in sales tax ever occur.

IWILL not vote for another tax! IWILL not fall for another scare tactic! IWILL not spend someone elses penny! I will donate if I feel it's a worthy cause.

Point well taken. This vote would only establish the trust fund. If an addition tax is ever added it has to partly go to Sustainable funding for the IDNR. I would fight an additional tax increase as well. I know how this sounds but this is how I am choosing to move with it.

Like Ironwood said this is not an additional tax. This just establishes that if there is a tax increase in the future a certain percentage of the new tax will be dedicated to conservation in Iowa. I think it's kind of a no brainer. If they are going to raise taxes in the future at least some of it will be going towards conservation and making Iowa a better place for everyone that enjoys the outdoors. This is a very similar setup to what Missouri has and I believe Minnesota just approved a very similar amendment to their constitution. I hope everyone will vote for this in November.

I strongly support some type of sustainable funding for the Iowa out doors and the DNR much like what I see in some of our neighboring states. I have not read all the proposal but I do have a question (imagine that). What happens if the new sales tax isn't called a sales tax? What happens to the funding then or will there even be any funding. Do you know that currently we don't pay "sales tax" on cars, trucks, motorcycles and such? Rather than sales tax we pay a one time 5% "registration fee", same thing but it isn't called sales tax any more. What happens to this funding if this becomes a 6% registration fee, or more local option or school fees like every county in Iowa currently has? I am just a little cynical about supporting what we think is a great program to only have some one change the rules and short us because they changed the designation on what we commonly feel is a tax. Remember that a tax by any other name isn't really a tax it just feels like one.

After going to the site, I have a question I couldn't find the answer to-
What does this need to pass? What I mean by that is, does there have to be more "yes" votes than "no" votes, or how does it work? The reason I ask is that I'm sure a lot of people who vote don't turn the ballot over & vote yes OR no for many of the things on the back of the ballot, so I didn't know how that would shake out.

This is indeed a tough issue. Nobody wants to pay more taxes. Nobody wants to pay more for hook, arrow or powder licenses. Nobody wants to pay more for anything, including me. So how do we balance the ever increasing need for funding the DNR and their ever decreasing levels of service?

This amendment is indeed a de facto vote for a sales tax increase. We all know that sooner or later taxes are gonna go up, it is the only other thing in life, besides death, that is for certain. So why not have part of the inevitable go for a cause we can all support, the future of deer hunting in Iowa.

I know I’m trying to sugar coat the tax equivalent of cod liver oil but sometimes ya just gotta hold your nose and swallow.

Until someone can tell me where else this train wreck of habitat / water issues in this State is gonna get on track, this seems like the obvious answer.

IWILL vote yes.

Bonker, you nailed it. I feel the exact same way. We all know taxes will be increased again sometime in the future. If we are going to have to pay for it anyway, natural resources in this state might as well benefit to.

You don't tax people so our furry friends have a place to hang and you have a place to hunt and as far as the water, if it's that bad they should have been working on that instead of wasting money somewhere else to buy a few votes. You may be very disappointed if you think you will get a place to hunt and clean water and instead you get a bike trail from Des Moines to Omaha! There are a few things you tax for but never in the worst economy since the 30's.

IWILL isn't a tax. Granted for it to work the way it's intended a tax increase will have to take place, and an increase will happen sometime in the future, we all know it will happen, no matter how much we all don't want it. IWILL just makes it so that a percentage of a future tax increase will go towards Iowa's natural resources.

Bonker...why don't you turn your whole check over to the government and let them decide what is best for your money, let them decide what's best for Bonker and his family. After all, they have a long track record on managing and spending money, never no conflicts of interests in government. It's only the inevitable.

The only reason taxes like these pass is with a vote...very avoidable. It's people wanting something for nothing. It is a vote to get something material that a group of people want through the hard work of others. It's a vote to steal from the 75 year old lady down the street that don't give a damn about hunting to fund your pastime.

You have taken this tax and spend, spread the wealth, socialist way of thinking, hook, line and sinker. MOVE THIS THREAD TO THE FISHING FORUM!

Vote your heart and convictions. No hard feelings hear. I believe you can see most would, at the core of it, not disagree with you. Like I said I am not voting for a tax increase. IWILL turn the ballot and vote yes.

What the government says the money is for, and what they actually do with the funds are two different things and we the citizens have no way of knowing. Keep your money you will be better off leasing or buying your own place.

One of the reasons we need a sustainable source of funding for the DNR is so the average guy and his family will have a place to go and enjoy the outdoors, whether its to hunt, fish or bird watch. There are fewer people buying hunting and fishing licenses, so the major source of funds for the DNR is getting less and less, yet the cost of operating parks and lakes keeps increasing. Iwill ear marks a percentage of the next sales increase for the DNR. Without a sustainable source of funding our parks and lakes will have to resort to entrance fees or find other sources of funding (like selling more NR deer tags). Vote yes

"IF" there's another tax raise, I prefer to at least have a choice in where some of my money goes.
Silly me........but I'd rather my money go to the animals instead of the ones who watch big screen TV's (we bought) while refusing to look for work.

As far as the bike trail, the legislation spelled out how the funds would be distributed. Check it out.

Ya...This would really bite to have to pay for what you use. Everyone should pitch in for your day at the park! I buy a hunting license every year...what's the diff? Why is it that it's a bike riders God given right to ride the hundreds of miles of bike trails every year for free when my tags go up every year?

There will never be enough money for what you want if you are spending someone elses money.
