Whoa. This is insane (from the stand)

We have a spot in Harrison CO Iowa and we are experiencing much of the same. Not near so many deer as other years, and more hunting pressure around us, including some new people sitting awfully close to our fences and pressuring the deer in sanctuary areas where we are trying to leave them...

So, what would you have done?

Several years back in our hunting area a guy nearby had something like 18 dogs that he just let run wild, so naturally they ran in packs and you would see 5 or more at one time. All breeds too, you would see a rottweiler, some sorta pointer, a lab, a beagle, a mut, and some little cat sized...

    Tracking Light

If your big old flashlight is a Maglight, they make LED replacement bulbs for them. I have a 3-D battery LED maglight and it puts out a pretty awesome beam of light. Find yourself a bulb and you would be good to go. If not, my dad recently bought a little energizer LED flashlight that holds 3...

    Fruit damage?

We had a cherry tree in Carroll that was completely loaded with little pea size bing cherries. I would guess the bottom half of the tree is a total loss, the top did better, we figure because the morning sun got to it sooner and warmed it back up in time to keep them alive. Heard somewhere...

    First Bow Buck

Well, after three years of bow hunting, I finally connected on a buck, first deer ever with my bow. You can see some pictures and the story here, http://wiredtohunt.com/2011/12/05/giant-first-bow-buck-for-jack-janning-of-iowa/

    Crossbow Broadhead with Compound

I would guess you are right on with the mechanicals being tougher to deploy on a crossbow head vs a head meant for a compound. If you think about it, given that a crossbow bolt will on average shoot at a faster speed than an arrow out of a compound, and that the bolt is accelerated to that...

    150 vs 100 grain debate??

I shoot 3 50 grain 777 pellets behind a TC 200 grain shockwave out of a Knight Revolution. 3'' high at 100 yards puts me right on at 200, 14'' low at 300 and it keeps enough retained energy at that range to kill a deer, and plenty accurate. Farthest shot I have made so far was 275ish on a doe...

    What do you think?

I carry an xd-m .40 in a chest holster during deer season as a second weapon but I'm not necessarily out there to shoot a deer with it, unless they decided to give me a very close shot, like 10-15 yards and in, and it would be easier to get the pistol on target than a long gun. It works well to...
