There is some spots the soil is pretty good in the bottum closer to the creek and there are other spots more up on a hill that wouldnt be as good I dont believe, but would still like to do something. I would like to try doing as little work in some of these areas as possible because I have other...
Well im not opposed to doing oaks as well but I figured walnut would do better in the cedar thickets because ive heard they are more shade tollerant and grow faster, also trying to get some more variety because i have only a handful of walnut trees but quiet a few shingle and some bur oaks
Anyone ever try converting cedar thicket into walnut? The areas im looking at doing the trees are good sized and there isnt much growth underneath them of anything. Would it be best to ring some trees and then plant the nuts so somemore sun reaches the ground or clear the cedars completely, or...
Ya ill just have to protect them if there is frost in the forecast but we should be clear of frost by then, and I did order tree tubes so should be good there
Thankyou for the advice, ill have the weeds and watering situation under control thats why im only gonna start with 10 so if the weather doesnt cooperate the number of trees Ill have to bring water too will be manageable. Really looking forward to this, just placed my order trees will arrive...
Ok now im wondering if I should wait till april until after the last frost or march before stuff comes back from dormancy. Im thinking April maybe because if the trees are grown in a different area that me it might be warmer where they are being grown so if I got them in march and its cold where...
Im planning on ordering some chestnut trees from mossy oak nativ nursery and am wondering if anyone else has planted nut trees from this nursery and what the best general time frame would be to plant. I have looked around a little already but am getting more confused than anything because I...
The kind of cable is apparently pretty important too because the smaller it is the better it blends in but then theres more chance for a chew out. Also theres different strand types of cable and some apparently are quicker sliding and stronger then others but idk i try to keep it simple and just...
I just went to f and t trading post website because i sae them on a commercial and bought ones labled for coyote and bobcat. There are different cable sizes and ones with swivlea and no swivles. Some are better than others but i just picked one
And another tip is make sure ur snare support wire is solid to whatever u attach it to so the snare stays in position, and sometimes the snare can be quite difficult to get in the position u want because its twisted or something else but i fiddle with them for a bit and get them how i like them...
Also if u shoot a deer the scraps are excellent for starting a bait pile and snaring when the yotes start coming to it, i caught 3 over one pile of deer scraps in about 5 days. And speaking of deer u have to be very careful on where u set these so u wont get a deer by the neck. Thats why i...
Thankyou, yes cable restraints have been very easy for me compared to footholds which have not been effective for me. All i do is set them on known coyote trails or if u dont know any known coyote trails wait for snow and set right on their tracks, the trails u choose need to be in moderatly...
Ya they probably will rebound quick if i dont have good luck hunting them year round wen i get my nightvision but hopefully they stay low enough through the winter where atleast it will make a difference in the rabbit and pheasant numbers
