    Persimmon tree

Persimmon trees have very course roots and are susceptible to transplant shock. Bare root transplants can’t stand competition and won’t survive dried soil. Unless you get regular consistent rain you will need to water. Once trees are established they are much more drought resistant. They don't...

    Brassicas

The last remaining turnips are about gone from my brassica plot. I am planning for the spring crop rotation. The local mills don’t carry crimson or berseem clover. What is the advantage of using crimson clover versus using a red or white clover? For those of us who can’t easily find annual...

    Brassicas

I thought a few might enjoy the before and after photos of my first brassica plot. I started with a garden size plot of dwarf essex</ST1:p rape to see if the deer in my area would even eat it. Very cheap to plant! One bag of pelletized lime, one bag of 12-12-12 and some mail order seed from...

    MDC Seedling Order Placed!!!

Of all the oaks available from MDC, why shumard oaks? You seem to be north of their normal range. Are you planning ahead for warmer weather or just adding some diversity?

    MDC Seedling Order Placed!!!

I am planting elderberry and chokeberry in Ralls County Missouri. Last year I planted 25 chokeberries. They grew super but by June they were eaten to the ground. I will use some wire fencing on a few and try some thorny locust tree branches to deter deer on the others.
