Especially trying to convince myself that someone is using data about Iowa as a whole when less than 8% of the state is wooded…………..Comparing deer density in Osceola county compared to Decatur county is wild.
Maybe we shouldn’t use all acres but we need knock off using only forest acres too. There is a difference between deer habitat and wooded acres. 8% might be labeled as forest but far more than that 8% is habitat that deer occupy. The county I live in, Clinton for example, is estimated at less than 20 square miles of forest, yet the deer harvest exceeds 1,414 deer, or 70/square mile, if only forest acres are included. That example ruins the forested acres argument.
