Rebar for tree tubes

I have a friend who uses 20ft rebar cut in third for his tree tube..He then uses a few long fabric staples on the bottom to keep it from spinning...Any thoughts or better ideas to cut back on costs.

Same cost to have a fab shop cut them to 6' in giant bundle . Use #4 bar or bigger.

I have been using them for a long time.
Compared to a t post nothing to get hooked up on roots when pulling.

Ditto on the rebar! Trial and error as with everything! My first planting they had me use bamboo stakes! I’m actually in the process of removing a bunch of them and yes a little back and forth and it pulls right out 99% of the time ready to be used again!

I was thinking the same thing, that's a great idea! Spinning tubes have cost me more trees than i care to admit

I use gorilla tape on my tubes as a back up . Seems to work most of the time !

I see that #4 is 1/2 inch is that enough strength??

1/2" will b just fine

I use 1/2 inch plastic conduit and then tape at the top.When I first planted and tested tubes for Kansas I used the oak stakes and really liked them

Have used #4 bar on thousands of tree tubes. I get them 6' with a 5' tree tube. Work great.

Thought of something on rebar, you guys ever get a tree out of a tube a foot or two and have the rebar not be enough support and the tree not have any backbone to support itself?

No,but I do cage the trees after the tubes start breaking apart but I just put up fence material about a ft bigger than tree and don't use post to keep bucks from rubbing.
