Iowa Property Tax Reform

Saw our representatives passed some property tax reforms today. While I appreciate the effort to limit property tax expansion, I fear this could be paving the way for counties to cry the blues and push for the elimination of the Forest Reserve Exemption on timber ground in Iowa as a way to compensate for some of the lost funds they will be incurring due to these cuts. Hope Im wrong, but it just seems a logical step before pulling away an exemption many of us utilize. Stay vigilant in future sessions as I fear the topic will raise its ugly head with a vengeance

They won’t get rid of FR! We gonna fight with all we got & they in for a war. Some reforms that are common sense- sure. Wipe out the program- not happening!!!! Gonna need some troops when the day comes to fight!!
Hope my taxes don’t go up anymore. My main stuff has gone up so obscenely is mind boggling. Like- double & triple what guys pay across line in MO. My taxes have more than doubled in not that long of period of time. For what? What more do I get? Nothing of course. I don’t mind paying but it should rise at level of inflation or maybe just a touch more in rare cases. All the sudden it doubles out of no where …. In counties that are the most impoverished of the whole state…. Truly hurt a lot of people. It’s NEVER enough $ for government!!!! & FR… wanting to get rid of it… just another tax hike on the most impoverished counties yet again.

I talked to the Decatur Co. assessor the other day and he said that Ag buildings taxes are going up...I'm not sure of the absolutes and he hadn't checked out the details yet. It seems when they have an uncontrollable appetite for other people's money they'll get it one way or another.

We have a lot of the same in michigan as far as property taxs on the rise big time. Add to it the uncapping when property sells.
We r in unstainable times this can't keep going at this rate.

My Iowa taxes are 8x as high as my MO ag land. But residential compared to ag land is a joke in Iowa. 80 acre farm worth $500k taxes be $1600. $500K house would be $6750. If many people would realize this and pay attention there would be an uproar or should be. And it just continues to go up. I am interested to see what the ag building increase looks like because they seem to be the highest taxed already other than maybe commercial.
