I have smoked quite a few batches of salmon and you will want to use alder for the wood. The brine recipe is wide open on possibilities but you will want to dry it well before putting it in the smoker. I can provide more info if you want to message me.
After a number of toms over the last 30+yrs the heaviest has been 24.25# until a couple of weeks ago I arrowed a 27.5# tom. Normally they have always ran in the 20-22# range.
I had a very similar surgery 3 yrs ago only after it got to where I couldn't reach up and turn the volume knob on the radio. It is not as good as the original equipment but I could pull my bow back before deer season started. It was definitely worth the pain and agony. Just follow the orders...
Crappies
My son and I kept 26 yesterday and 2 nice bluegills. Several had eggs yet and wasn't sure if they were finished. As black as that one is I would say it is still spawning yet. In the pond we fished I even caught a couple that were silver and it is rare to catch them.
DNR meeting
The comment about the gov. tags came from the meeting I attended in Sgt. Bluff. The intention of the comment was to eliminate the celebrity status and give back to the veterans who have served and were injured or disabled. Everyone already knows that IA is the big buck mecca and the...
Glad to see you finally got a shot at him. That is certainly not the same 9 that I saw, although I need to look at a shed I found 2 yrs ago that could possibly be from him.
That is a nice pile of kings. I got back last Tues from AK and we hit the Sockeye run perfect again this year with plenty of fish to bring home plus a lot of catch and release.
I swear by the ones that I have and have used them in Canada and Alaska with great results. Normally the skeeters seek me out before anyone else and with a thermacell they seem to hover outside of arms reach and not get any closer. As far as the ticks go I doubt they will work well with them. I...
I have shot a 222 for over 30yrs and it works great on yotes and fox as well. I shoot the 40gr hollow points and you have to search for the hole on the yotes and the fox have only an entry or a small hole to sew on the fox.
The accuracy is very good but it just isn't as fast as some of the...
I have had a 597 with the heavy barrel and laminated stock for over 10yrs and had problems with the clips and jamming as well. I have replaced the clips with the metal version and it didn't totally eliminate the jamming issue but it is very manageable now. As far as accuracy goes it shoots...
I had shoulder surgery and last spring during turkey season I obtained a temporary crossbow permit for turkey hunting. I am one that is glad to be able to shoot my bow again. The crossbow is not something I would choose to hunt with.
I have saw several chasing during this late muzzleloader season. In fact one showed up to look at a couple of does that were already in the field and by the time I got him ranged, he left when the doe he chased to the fence turned around and left and he was gone.
We have wagon blinds that we put out and they don't mind them at all. I have had deer walk to it to investigate on the first night that I placed them there. I would think that a ground blind might take a little longer for them to get used to, so the sooner the better.
