    I like hinge cutting but...

I was in ND at a wedding and we ended up in the basement at the wedding venue for an hour. A tornado hit about 30 miles away and unfortunately killed 3 people .

    WRP experience

There is no doubt WRP can be good hunting, especially in Iowa ! If a guy doesn’t care about return on investment, or all the restrictions it might work ! For me, I’d rather be the guy getting the easement check, then the second or third owner after the farm went into WRP !

Tactics for stopping or nailing poachers….

This is a tough question, tough situation. The guys losing multiple big bucks ? The poachers are that effective ! Crazy Is there a fence option at the critical locations ? Screening helps… cameras ? I know you do that already! Hmmm I assume these bucks are in the crop land by the road? Maybe...

    Farm Crisis Documentary- really good!!!

I don’t know how Paul Volcker the Fed chairman thought it was a good idea to raise interest rates above 10%? That seems insane now ? It cost a lot of good people their farms !

    WRP experience

Keep in mind that the seller was paid a good $$ amount for the easement. Maybe a few Iowa guys could help here, but in my area of Minnesota , WRP sells for about 1/3 of the market in that area … Example 6000 acre land will sell for 2000/acre. I see some on the market now and it’s not selling.

    WRP experience

Yes I have some experience. I’d say make sure it’s very cheap in price, the restrictions are numerous. It depends on the situation? If it’s a property that borders your farm it’s more attractive. No income, but can be excellent cover. Good luck !

    Future of CRP

I talked to a guy that does CRP plantings & he had a client with 200 acres lined up for CRP, but then backed out . My guess is the enrollment numbers will be lower ?

    Future of CRP

My CRP guy in Minnesota said rates are $40-50 lower in my area. I’m not sure how each county in Iowa has changed ? Had anyone checked ?

    Thistles in clover/brassicas

Thistles are so bad in my area of Minnesota, I think Transline is a good option? But I’d have to look back at what we used ….

    Wierd experience this morning.

This was on the river by Lake Bronson . I can’t even remember the name of the river , but it was good hunting ! We saw big bucks, bear, wolves & an occasional elk in that area.

    Wierd experience this morning.

My son & I were heading up to bow hunt in NW Minnesota along a nice river bottom. We discussed buying an OTC bear tag in that zone since we had seen a few bear in camera & it’s no quota! Decided not to buy the tags . That evening a really nice bear went right under his stand and gave him...

Story time. How did you buy your first farm?

I bought an 80 acre parcel when I was around 30 yrs old . They were asking $24k for the 80 in NW Minnesota. At first I thought it was a typo… It was a 4 hour drive, but I bought it for 22k, and it had over 2k a year in CRP. I hunted up there a few times, the very first night I sat up there I...
