    CRP Tree Plantings

I just finished a two year project doing 52ac into a tree crp program. Now lots of mowing and spraying going forward! Last year was largest planting and could not have gotten more lucky on a perfect year.

    Looking for disc

Thanks all for input. I ended up buying a big heavy Krause disc with wings on it. Took the wings off and should have a lifetime supply of discs and bearings along with spare tires. Crazy that the mid sized farm equipment is better deals than the small food plot sized equipment. Supply and...

    Alfalfa

Guessing that Duracor will smoke alfalfa as it is made to kill all broadleafs to my knowledge.

    TSI chainsaw????

I need to clean out a couple of lightweight tsi chainsaws if anybody is in the market. Have two Stihl MS 261 16" both great shape with little use, a Dolmar 5100S 18", and an Echo X Series (their commercial line) CS-501P 18". They are all great saws. I am going to sell two and keep two.

    Alfalfa

I am sure it is in this thread somewhere, but ok to spray alfalfa with clethodim and butyrac? I thought that is what they were for but the local coop seemed surprised when I told him what I was planning to spray. If good to go, how long before I should spray the alfalfa that I drilled last...

    Dogwood cuttings

Do you plant each cut stem or cut each stem into more cuttings (ie make three cuttings out of each stem in the bucket)?

Things that make me go Hmmmmm....Land Prices

I am in the same boat as Deerdown. I have been strongly considering buying another farm as it is an investment that I really enjoy. Seems like 2-2.5% return is a "good" recreational property these days, most are even lower than that. Even if paying cash this seems like a not so great...

    Mulching jobs

I had my work done about 1.5 years ago. It was part of an EQIP funded project. If memory serves me he worked about 1.5 days and bill was $1,600. He had a brand new Deere 333G (I think that was the letter) and did use a drum mulched. He had both drum and disc. At the time I was interested in...

    Future of CRP

Have some acres that I am interested in enrolling into CRP now. Has anybody explored this in the last few weeks? Is it feasible now or things put on hold?

    Looking for disc

Found this old sucker pretty close to me, definitely won’t have to worry about it sitting outside! You guys think this would be heavy enough to disc stalks in corn plot after nocking it down for winter? I think it is a Kewanee

    Looking for disc

I haven’t done corn plots in years but this year I am going to. Going to use dry urea and planter that doesn’t have no-till coulters. Thinking I want something in the 8-10’ range and heavy enough to till the stalks after nocking it over. Located in SE Iowa. Any suggestions what to get?

    Tree Tube Options

I placed a very large order of tree tubes from Timber Management last year and will be using some this spring as well. Pretty certain I will have quite a few 5' tubes left over (unused) that I would sell for better price than Timber Management is selling them for. They are 5' tubes. Let me...

    Slime in Tractor Tires

I put a commercial grade slime in my front tires with good success. Can’t recall the brand but was highly recommended on forums. Had a flat in rear tire that has rim guard and cost me $280 to fix!!

    Timber Stand Improvment

Skip, great video thanks for sharing. In your video you show an area with tsi work and looks beautiful. Right next to it is an area that is wide open timber that looks to be same exact terrain. Why would you not have done the tsi work in the entire area? Is there a reason to leave an area...
