Bingo! It drives us nuts because there is nothing quite like the seek phase but one hot doe it's full on craziness for 300 acres. I read where they only pair up for about 48 hours, sound about right?
Never hurts to ask the other guys. There's a guy in our neighborhood who always asks permission for every farm he can but doesn't hunt much anymore. He's usually pretty cool about sharing info. Could be a similar situation.
I have been told that before but mine was cleaned up in record time so if true, mine did not have EHD. Hard to tell but I figured since mine was in the pond that was the issue.
My observations in our area is a continuous deer herd decline. We have absolutely no deer driven crop damage. I have been amazed that the field edges of our beans are full right up to the outside row, which is something I have not witnessed in my hunting lifetime until the last 3-4 years. Who...
I love watching the videos from the 80's, 90's, & 2000's. The sport was gaining popularity, technology was taking big steps every year & the wealthy hadn't yet figured out how to capitalize. I was fortunate enough to grow up during that time and it was so much fun. We could hunt about...
This was last week in our pond in Mahaska County. Not sure what our local officer does but doesn't go out of his way but I assume it's EHD. We had one dead in a bean field last year as well.
Totally get it. A daughter in travel and JH ball dominated my time. I got my beans planted but not sprayed. Trying to get caught up over the next 2 weeks. I didn't get my plot screen planted, trying to work that into the next week.
Since I finally got my password reset, I missed this thread back in March.
A couple of my personal thoughts...
1. The US population in 1990 was 250M in 2020 is was 331M. The amount of land is not increasing.
2. These hunting "reality" companies are sharp. They are well financed speculators...
I sat in the corner of my farm due to wind, which is usually a good in and out spot for our farm. I did not see a deer but I watched one opossum walk through and then 2 more on it's trail a half hour later so I think the opossum rut is on...
So catching up on my last week:
I was no where near...
I think you questions are good ones and I don't see any jealousy in your post at all. I'm going off the original topic but this is how I view the "upper crust" of hunting personalities...
I'm sure plenty of folks on here have talked to Lee, he is so accessible and is willing to share any info...
One thing that is down in our area are yotes. Not sure if that plays a role but it has become a hot ticket for young hunters, I get hit up alot by young guys wanting to get after them. The yote numbers were crazy high about 4-5 years ago but they have slowly came down.
