Generally removing hickory as they are shade tolerant and out compete oaks shutting down regen.
Any tree is cover so thats a positive.
But hickory only provides squirrel food and very little timber value. Usually bought as pallet or mats if big enough
I think it would be very manageable to spot spray if you went dozer route. Prefer a dozer with a ripper that can drop that down and rip lingering roots out as well.
