    Who is shed hunting?!

Up to 16 total on our 50 acre project. All this year's sheds and only ONE match set. It's been amazing to see the transformation over the 3 full years we've had it. Closed right before '21 season, and would be lucky to see 4-5 deer in a hunt. Dead, no deer nor bucks. Property setup...

    Tree Tube Options

Do not skimp on the stake, especially if you're in a windy open area. Have learned that lesson the hard way unfortunately. Cant beat a steel T post or conduit. You'd be surprised how many perfectly fine piles of T posts are laying around farms once you start looking for them. Most guys...

    Final Day of the Project

Not surprised. I have only ever seen great results and great care taken from loggers in those type communities. Surely exceptions like anything, but most do great work!

Sheds still hanging on! % left?

I am seeing pretty much all shed except for the #1 I want to find. Still holding as of 6am this morning!

    Milo

I was under the impression it's a lot less needy than corn. I'm sure if you're producing it as a cash crop you can split hairs with that stuff but I literally did not fertilize, all on clay soil tops in IL, and it grew great (see above). The dirt had been soybeans prior so probably a little N...

    Milo

They hammered mine, and in places I know the local deer have never seen milo before. It was really awesome actually. Would walk through beans and green to eat the heads on some occasions. I won't plant entire fields of it, but will always have at least the edges planted in milo from now on...

    PH drill questions

Everything you listed can go through the main box. When you need the fluffy box is when you start getting into pollinator stuff, big blue, indian, etc. Bearded seeds

Non-Res Landowners - How do they hunt annually?

Was listening to a podcast recently where a large IA landowner (Greg Glesinger) discussed his Iowa farms and his annual bowhunting on them in Iowa, but lives in Wisconsin full time? How does that work? Is there a way you can just buy an outfitter-type tag? Not from IA, just curious. Tons...

    Food Plot Architecture Help

Sweet place! Be fun to see what everyone comes up with. Is money/income needed from it? If not - I'd CRP, farm out, or take out of commission the north 1/3 or so along your neighbor, and load the bottom 2/3 of the interior field with food. Maps are tough but I'd guess you're realistically...

    Food Plot Architecture Help

I just dont see how you're going to be able to get out of there after an evening hunt. Is there access from the north? Or just more timber

Prescribed Burn - Backpack Blower Recommendations

Had a quad with 25 gal sprayer w/ gun this spring. Worked like a charm. Could snipe runaway flames from 10yds away. Was actually a ton of fun and super effective!

Prescribed Burn - Backpack Blower Recommendations

Is that an access trail to a stand? When do you clear it? I've always loved the idea, but been gun shy about the middle of season intrusion needed to actually do it.

    Soybean row spacing and population

I have done similar. This year's deer brand was RWW. I planted RWW gen 2 RR in the same field as enlist ag beans I've used for years. 3 fields, 2 different properties. All side by side. The RWW are taller and a prettier yellow. They LOOK tasty, but have witnessed zero favorability by the...

    Soybean row spacing and population

I can't tell if you're being funny or not with the bowling ball talk. So you're saying the SEED bean you're planting needs to be larger than average? and it will inherently produce pods with larger beans in it? Does the larger bean have better flavor? What's the attraction? Never heard...

    Soybean row spacing and population

I've been chewing on the same thing recently! Been planting my beans on 30"s for years and will have a drill for the first time this spring. Wondering if I should do 7.5 or 15 in the water hemp fields? For pre I have been using Outlook for a few years and it works great on pigweed and water...
