    Cranford EZY Steps- WANTED

Today I came across a couple I've had for maybe 30 years? They aren't your style and I had one snap off at the tree eons ago. Should throw them in the metal scrap pile as I don't trust them. They don't have the aggressive taper threads like the pic you posted.

    Cranford EZY Steps- WANTED

I can't bring myself to screw into oaks or walnuts or any other tree of value. Even cringe if it is a bow hanger.

    Apple/Pear Trees

Years ago, picked up a couple of heavily discounted apple trees at WalMart or Theisen's. The tree on the right side of the pics is one, second one is farther to the right. The tree on the left is an oak raised from an acorn. Good apple year and not one on the ground under them, all cleaned...

    Apple/Pear Trees

I think that is varietal difference. We've got a couple of apple trees in the orchard like that. Also, 1 of 3 of our pear trees will never drop the fruit. The pears turn into a sugar sack and the hornets have a feast.

    Enjoyed shooting my bow today

Think I used all my 2217 and 2216's for different projects (non-archery) when I went to carbon.

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

One of my first cams was 35 mm film. Let's roll back from cell and SD cards to that! Ha ha.

    Heavy racked buck there AU91!

    Rut Action/Movement Reports

Only hunted twice so far as like 203ntyp, been busy with chores, trying to get the farm prepped for winter. I agree with deerhunter93 and will probably take the week of Thanksgiving off, with a few days here and there before. This weekend weather is looking interesting, trying to figure out...

    Will it live?

Years back, I had trail cam pictures all summer of a buck with a festering hole in his back leg. Could see the pus oozing out of the leg. I shot him first shotgun season. Doubt he'd have made the winter. Called the CO and he gave me the option of tagging and keeping the rack or keep hunting...

I really like that type of rack. Congratulations.

    Will it live?

I don't think that got guts. My guess is it will live. Might throw a funky rack next year.

    Just an oddball.

Impressive how tough they are. Probably looking to punch a tag on a freak as well this year. Congrats!

    Rut Action/Movement Reports

Willie Suchy, former IA DNR may he RIP, said the "peak of the the rut" is Nov. 13 every year. First hunt of the year was Saturday afternoon. Bumped 3 does going in. Watched more does emerge just as the sun was setting. At the last minute, the party got crashed by a buck chasing them, but...

    November 1

Very nice, Congrats! That's one shot I haven't taken since 1986, when I bounced an arrow into the ground off a doe's sternum.

    Rut Action/Movement Reports

My commute to work is spent observing. Early last week I saw a decent buck trying to get back into timber after being out in ag. Little opportunity there as I can't hunt that timber and it was barely legal shooting. Thursday saw two roadkill bucks, both 2.5 yr old in my estimation. The first...

    Farming your own ground

Might need to schedule an appointment at your local FSA office.

    Farming your own ground

Who gets the farm subsidy payments? Landowner or tenant? Cash rent I would think the tenant gets that check but maybe can negotiate.

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

I kind of follow along with that, but it takes two to tango. The doe also has an impact on trophy potential of the offspring. I've heard many wildlife biologists claim that you can't control genetics in the herd.

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

High grading? Guess I need a definition. I gather in general terms that it is shooting the largest rack buck, those with true trophy potential before they reach it. So it is done before they have maxed out their antlers? Maybe a 3, 4 or 5 year old? Where I get hung up here is that I've...

    What went on here?

That type of random behavior keeps me hunting. Might not be as fun if I was to break the code for guaranteed hunts.
