I agree about using fences or other means to funnel deer by your stand..It becomes more killing than hunting when you get to that point. There has to be some challenge left than to manipulate movement and force deer unnaturally right by your stand. A lot of serious hunters do it though.

I think during the rut is one of the hardest times to kill a mature buck. No pattern and they are always locked down with a doe. Lots of deer get killed during the rut because that's when all the hunters are out. Personally, I'd pick almost anytime except the rut to take a mature buck.

I agree about the snow and trespassers. Also, I hunted a food plot one eve looking for an old cull I wanted to shoot. He didn't show but almost all the great young 3-4 year olds did show. I was thinking this is way too easy, and it's no wonder we don't have many old, high scoring bucks around...

His body looks like a 3.5 year old to me. Usually 4 year olds have a bigger neck than he does in your 11-1 picture and overall body looks small. I think you are wise waiting a year.

I have noticed deer not eating beans much this year..In years past, even with enlist beans, deer hammered them late season. On both my farms, deer are not eating the beans hardly at all even with very minimal hunting pressure. With the cold and snow, I thought they would be hitting them good...

First offense should be at least $500 fine and one year loss of hunting license. Losing hunting rights would really make some guys think twice about trespassing.
