    The guy lost his foot

Had a buck with a broken hip, believe he got hit by a car as a 2 year old. Grew a funky rack at age 3 and my neighbor finally shot him. He would come to his alfalfa field daily. I'd fold like a cheap suit if anything like that ever happened to me :)

RE: Bedding - Historically they bed on the hillside below. They could start to bed tighter, right up against this edge by next season. The growth of this edge will explode, along with the existing 3 year (20 yard wide) switchgrass buffer above it on the field edge. This makes my access even...

March 14, 2026 After a good workout all marked trees are down. Quite a bit of cover here. Didn't know we had some nice hardwoods in amongst all those giant cedars.. May go back next winter and fell a few more cedars a bit further in, as time allows. Even with morning sun, there are...

    Liming question

For pell lime - Old rule of thumb used to be 100# / acre to raise pH by .1 point. 500# should get you around 6.2 or so, depending on soil type.

    Liming question

How big is the field? Would be nice to get an Ag lime truck in there. If not, pelletized is next best option.

Best place to find untreated wood posts?

Looking to use something besides T post + scrapestick. Big bucks tear out limb every time.. Going to foam in an untreaded post and drill holes for branches. Prefer pine or cedar. My fallback is to make one with the tons of cedars I have..

    Who has the best switchgrass?

Been pretty happy with Real World to be honest. I know its supposedly just Alamo, but the winter standability (even with snow) is pretty dang good. The new improved RC varieties are quick out of the ground and unless you want a monoculture, don't require weed control when late spring /...

    Missouri cancels late season

MO has been allowing public comment for some time. I never saw any response to the surveys I've responded to for 15+ years either.. Agree, hope they are waking up.
