Let's talk DIY out of state hunts...

I've done pretty much what you've said...I haven't bought the OnX wyoming map yet. But, I was trying to figure out how / why it the success can be so high in area's that the website has such low public land. Thanks for the help. Is there any "essential" equipment you would take out there? Or...

Let's talk DIY out of state hunts...

For those who have done Wyoming, I've looked at a handful of units that you can almost guarantee a tag / draw your first year. Issue is, low volume of public land / accessibility. Any thoughts / suggestions? Hints on places to go? DWGH...you looking anywhere in particular?

Let's talk DIY out of state hunts...

Yes, I do think a full textbook could be written as well. I was just thinking of some general "face" questions / information that cold point people in a direction.

Let's talk DIY out of state hunts...

I know many on here head out of state for hunts throughout the fall. For those of us who have not done this, and do not want to go through an outfitter, can we get some information? Thinking the following will answer most of the questions: 1) Species (I.e. Whitetails, Mulies, Pronghorns, etc)...

    Ehd time again?

Question from an outsider looking in.... Since it was mentioned that 20-30 years ago you didn't see this kind of outbreak.... In the last 20-30 years, has there been a lot of new ponds / water holes created or opened up? I guess what I am curious to know, is if your good black soil up there...

    Timber Stand Improvment

Hinge 1/3, flush cut the other 2/3. You can even treat 1/3 of the flush cuts as well if you want. I see no reason to hinge anything higher than hip high...This will get sunlight to the forest floor, provide side cover, put stump sprouts at a height deer can eat, and is much safer. I'd say...

    Best ladder stands?

We've got a bunch of 20-21' River's Edge stands. Takes time to put them together, but man they are nice to sit in. One thing we do to make them a bit safer when putting up, is we attached the ladder 1/2-2/3 of the way up with a ratchet strap that goes around the tree (or 2 straps put...

    DIY Ozone Closet

DWGH...Are you concerned about the strings on your bow? Great idea, i just didn't know if this would have an adverse effect. I know i've heard on the sitka rubber suspenders it can damage them.

    Topo Mapping

I've also got OnX...you can get your state for $25 with discount code. I really like the OnX offline feature, and tracker. I've also downloaded DeerCast to see how that jives this first year...Also Hunt Wise with all my stand locations so I can log stuff in. I'm probably going overboard.

Trail cam movement updates... **all bucks dead or living in a cave!!! Anyone else??

By far the worst summer (specifically the last 4 weeks) for our trail camera's. Here in SW Missouri we need rain bad, and so I've got to believe bucks are bedding where they have safe access to water. Our creek just has a couple of pockets of water that it is holding...which it is normally...

    October Hunting Tactics?

Pretty simple for me. Until Oct 25th or so, I stay out of bedding areas and hunt field edges / food. Also, I wait for a cold front to move in. When a cold front comes in, I try to get out and sit that evening because I have always seen good movement or the right kind of movement. Last year...
