Lets talk about your 2018-19 Whitetail Strategy....

Try to get some does as early as possible in bow season...Then back out and let farm settle back down for late october / first of november. Unless, of course, a mature buck comes by. Only hunt fields early season, and wait till chasing starts to move into woods / bedding areas.

Why certain bucks reach maturity and how that affects hunting strategy

I think mature bucks also know when we call (grunt or rattle) and it "just doesn't make sense" to them for one reason or another. Don't get me wrong, I've grunted and rattled and it has worked...but, i've also seen mature bucks and have done the same and they immediately know for some reason...

Missouri Expands CWD Zone Feeding/Mineral Ban....

My first thoughts when i read / heard the study..."Did they have a control outside of these licks?" Also, did they test any of the soil in scrape locations? Licking branches? Food Plots? What's the prevalence rate in that area? Is it steady? Growing? Diminishing? So many other factors...

Good hunting areas “come & go” & some interesting IA #’s & facts...

I guess I didn't realize how many people believe they can kill a 200" deer if they owned a chunk in Iowa, or killed a 170" if they just hunted a week there. I've got my PP's saved, and I've driven through some incredible area's of southern Iowa where the hunting is top notch. However, my...

Good hunting areas “come & go” & some interesting IA #’s & facts...

As of February of this year, George Moore scored 31 200" bucks from Oklahoma from the 2017 season. I'm not sure what his latest up to date numbers are. I would bet those folks don't enter them into the B&C to keep word down about the quality of bucks OK has killed the past 10 years.

Buck Bedding Areas in Farm Country

I think you are on the right path. Getting in as close as you can without being detected, and light calling 30-45 minutes before dark. MUST have good wind. Probably want to stick to these areas between Oct 28th-Mid November so you don't bust them out too early in the season.

    DWGH Farm Projects Thread 2018

DWGH, Knowing you are in NCMO, is there a reason you are fencing in the beans? I guess I'm asking since you are in an ag area where deer also have other options this summer. I'm in SWMO, and on Friday we plan on putting in 8.5 acres of forage beans. Wasn't planning on fencing these in...

RESPOND NOW!!!! Suggestions from any hunter!!!

I really enjoy it when shows detail the aspects of different farms. For instance, setting up a 40 acre piece is different than setting up a 150 acre piece. Setting up and hunting a farm with tough access is difficult, but there are some things that can be done. Each and every farm is unique...

    DWGH Farm Projects Thread 2018

I'm from Missouri as well, and you would not believe the pushback you will get if you ever mention moving rifle season out of the heart of the rut. Common answer..."They'll just get shot 4 weeks later" or "they'll be easier to kill...just need a food plot".

    Thinking about 2019 season

I know I know, we haven't even started our 2018 deer seasons (except for all the great habitat work!). However, I am already looking forward to 2019. Reason being, is I now have 4 preference points for Iowa! Yes, I am an OOS'er a few hours south of the Iowa border. Over the past few years, I...

Roundup Ready Corn & Soybean Food Plot

On forage beans, when have you been able (or even if you have been able!) to overseed you winter green mix? I am planning on planting June 8th right now. I know it's a bit later, but just trying to get it all done. Going to drill 8.5 acres of forage beans. Will be leaving beans standing all...

HF 2108 changes definition of what is and isn't bait for deer and sets distances from baited areas.

Minerals during season offer nothing in terms of attracting bucks. You should be able to sit in one in my opinion. As far as the concern w/ CWD....What about all the other contact deer having with each other w/ licking branches, scrapes, food plots, etc. I know this is a concentrated area...
