I've never tried coon, but when I trapped there was a guy my cousin worked with that wanted everyone I caught. That was an extra 5 bucks on top of fur prices that were high in the 70's. The extra money was yummy, not sure about the greasy coon.
I've been seeing chasing the past couple weeks as well. Yearlings are coming into estrus and any doe that didn't get bred the first rut. Seeing bachelor groups of younger bucks also.
Find a big old tree stump that started to hollow out on top and pour the minerals in that. A friend in Illinois did that and over the years that stump was smooth from all the licking.
Late season sit, I have 4 more days to hunt. My number one survived as well as number two, just haven't been close enough for the bow. I'm tempted to get the Flintlock out; they are always 100+ yards away except when I'm in the stand.
Strange, never heard of that kind of behavior before. If the big buck was hunched over, he might have been injured. Either he lost his "package" on a barbed wire fence or joined the LBGQ community?
I agree. I haven't hunted with a gun for 30+ years, started bow hunting with a recurve and custom-made long bow a few years later. Nothing is more rewarding than taking a buck with traditional archery equipment. Once I got my 1st compound trying to cure target panic, I still did not use sights...
