Not sure how new it is, maybe last few years? I know their "corners for wildlife" program has been going on for a long time and this is basically the same thing but this applies more broadly. Not just pivot corners. They were great to work with and it was super simple.

Its not CRP. It's a program through Nebraska Pheasants Forever called Pathways for Wildlife.

Sorry guys, I could've been more clear. This buffer strip is on a different farm in southeast Nebraska, not the Iowa farm with iffy cropping history I alluded to earlier in this thread. That is a CP-43. A lot of forbs in the mix, some switch, blue and indiangrass but not the higher %s you'd...

Interesting, you say the rally is due to the Iran conflict? What are the market conditions effecting that one?

Buffer strips will often see the highest, even maxed out, rates because of their direct effect on water quality. We did 7ac spring and got the max as well

    Sapling Fertilizer?

Really glad I asked. Appreciate it guys!

    Sapling Fertilizer?

I read somewhere that a guy takes manure and mixes it 50/50 with dirt from the hole to pack around the roots. I wonder if that would be a good route to go.

    Sapling Fertilizer?

Morse Hills sells "Nutra Pro" that is a slow release 16-8-8 fertilizer packet, and also a 3-10-11 BioRush "booster" mixable liquid. Blue Hill Wildlife sells 0-20-20 pellets. What has everyone had experience with? I'm getting ready to try my hand at pears and chestnuts in April and want to make...

    Your best chestnut recommendations??

For chestnuts, does anyone have any thoughts on Japanese vs Chinese vs hybrids? And planting- fall vs spring? Timing conditions?

    Actual laws for mineral?

Same story here. One site and before season I'll cover it with a pallet or two, then a tarp over top and secure it with a few stakes or big rocks.

    Sheds

In the last 4 days I've had 7 different 3-5 year olds and a couple two year olds on cam holding both sides still. Pretty wild.

This is an interesting conversation. Is "investor" turning into a bad word? What defines "investor"? Seems a lot of us fall into that category. I think there's a clear distinction from investment capitol groups buying up land (and single family home, for that matter) and someone using land as an...

Pretty sure the county rental rate average and CRP practice have more to do with the rate than CSR but I could be wrong.

    Alfalfa???

Are the toxins alfalfa specific, or will they kill off any other plant too?

    Alfalfa???

I'm going to be trying to revive a neglected alfalfa plot this spring. New farm so I don't have much backstory on it. It was RR alfalfa but it's super sparse and I believe it's pushing 5 years old at this point. I'm considering frost seeding some red clover, soil sampling, seeing what comes to...

I'm in the same boat on about 12 ac. Should never have been turned into ag field by the previous owner, way too sloped. I've called FSA on every signup the last two years and gotten the same response- nothing we can do until an updated Farm Bill. It's a constant reminder how useless our...

    Sheds

I posted about a mature buck that dropped back in December but since then I've noticed very few shed bucks and I'd say 90% of the 3+ y/o bucks I'm keeping an eye on or have been regular on camera are still holding and confirmed within the last week or so.

    SW IA Forester Recommendation

Thanks guys! We likely aren't looking to log anytime soon, the previous owners did a select cut before listing. It is what it is. I'm mainly looking at overall forest condition, species make up, tips on how to improve and maintain, maybe an EQIP contract next year for some TSI, cedar management...
