Tell me why we should shoot more does

I agree does are over harvested in many areas. There are pockets that have too many deer I believe but not any of the areas I hunt.

Dang Droptine, you are my neighbor right in between our two farms. If you have dead ones I am sure I do as well!

    Wow Just Wow....... Land Prices

250 acres (3 tracts) just sold at auction in Van Buren county for $4,925/ac up to about $6k/ac. Good looking hunting farm with about 50/50 mix of timber and tillable (albeit very low csr). 5% buyers fee on top of prices. Seems like the prices were down in this particular auction.

I have a Bakcou Mule and seems to be a great bike. Don’t have experience with any others to compare to though

    Alfalfa

I am going to spray it as soon as weather cooperates and drill in some alfalfa. Looked at it again today and very little, if any existing alfalfa in the stand

    Alfalfa

Going to order some alfalfa from Welter Seeds and likely do a couple plots ranging from .5ac up to 2ac. Likely going to put them in hay fields. Hay fields may have MINIMAL VERY old faint alfalfa. Very little if any. Do you think this will be ok or do I still need to kill it off and plant...

    Clover

Question on spraying Cleth and Butyrac on young clover. I have sprayed it quite a bit on mature clover but never young. Late spring this year I drilled clover around timber edges. It ranges from 2” to 6” tall but has not spread yet (can still easily see drill rows). It is really weedy with...

    clethodim

I have limited experience, but would say 2-4 weeks. I sprayed mix of cloth and butyrac a few weeks ago and the grass really isn’t brown but also seems to have stopped growing.

    Pine trees for rubbing post

Was thinking about setting a treated pine post, 2x6 “outrigger” and hang a rope like I have seen others do. Most all of these posts are 8’. Not sure how tall it needs to be? 2’ in ground and 6’ out of ground? How far above ground to bottom rope? Last year I set out cut willow trees with...

CRP rate sheet for one area- time is now!!!

Skip, I didn’t read through all the pages you posted, but gather you anticipate the CRP rent rates to go down soon? Have some family farms (not in my name) that I have been trying to persuade into CRP. If consensus is rates are going down maybe I should push harder….

Quinclorac for switchgrass, sorghum screen and miscanthus

I posted on another forum topic that I have recently drilled RC Big Rock, not sure if it is up or not because it is buried in annual grass and some broadleaf. Is it safe to spray Quinclorac right now or would it damage young switch if it has emerged?

    Switchgrass

I drilled some RC about 2 weeks ago and have a bad flush of annual grass, not sure if I have any switch coming. Just keep it clipped is my only option? Have some Duracor on hand for the broadleafs if they come

    Waterholes revisited

I have a few earth holes that I dug with sister. Deer seem to hit them hard certain times of year but not as much other times. I put them in waterway drainage type areas where they naturally fill. Never tried a tank

    Now what?

FYI I learned the hard way that spraying can be hard on fawns, not just mowing. Sprayed a plot last weekend and ran over a fawn with UTV and killed it. Didn’t even know I hit it until the next pass. Was not much weed height, shocked I didn’t see it, they can really hide!

    How to kill clover

1 pint per acre doesn’t sound nearly potent enough. I normally spray 1.5-2 quarts per acre of 2,4-D amine.
