    Cuddeback L seris

I have 5 L series cams, about one year old, and a G series home cam, not sure how old and solar panels I’ll give to someone to put to good use, for a case of Busch Light. Not kidding. I have so many they’re sitting. I’m close to Centerville, Albia, Corydon, Bloomfield. I can meet there at...

    Orange Army

I love bow hunting but I’ll be out there Saturday. Those first shots are exciting and remind me of when I was a kid. Anything to feel young I do. lol.

Crispi West River is considered a hiking boot. I have a pair. They’re awesome.

Keep it the way it is. Guessing and testing for age is a synonymous approach in that if the deer I shoot isn’t 5 or better I made a mistake. This is Iowa whitetail not Iowa trophy whitetail. Not everyone can “hold out”. Some have family, work, limited access etc issues. How about we keep...

Crispi are also Italian made. Some Danner boots are made in Oregon but some are manufactured in Vietnam and Cambodia. My last pair were garbage. Had two previous pairs that were great.

Check out Crispi boots. I was a Danner guy until they cheapened up manufacturing. Crispi is a solid boot.

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

A population increase. While I agree tell that to the legislators who are coddled by the Farm Bureau and farmers. You need to cloak a pop increase under some agenda that appears to help the farmer and insurance companies. Population increase on its face plays into the hands of crossbow...

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

All this said what’s the next step? Proposed legislation through the IBA, ISC, the legislators we know?? And if so on what topics.

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

Bucks, great post above. No hijack. You described what all hunting should be about. I have a nice Iowa farm and could care less about trophies anymore. Used to. Not now. Even in the so called early 2000’s hey days our chances on a 175” plus deer were limited based on the amount of...

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

The only valid point you make above about age structure is maybe why gun seasons are in December. Conservation groups, lobbyists and public opinion in relation with NR tags, crossbows and other issues are part of the legislative process and as a result legislators have approved legislation, or...

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

Here’s the reality imo. Very few, me included, have enough ground to increase the age structure. I can’t tell anyone how many 3 and 4 year olds we’ve passed over the years to never ever see them again. I’m talking 99% of them. I’m not going to hunt year after year, or others who hunt my...

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

Best post in this thread. Most here are trying to shoot the biggest deer they can, me included, with little regard for what hunting once was. I grew up hunting in PA and if someone in your group shot any buck we had a party. Last week I mistakenly shot a 3 year old 10 pt and I’m...

Shot this deer yesterday morning. If I’m honest I misjudged him for a bigger similar buck we have but I had about 3 seconds and one window to shoot. Anywho, he’ll eat good and scores 138 for team 5.

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

It’s the cultural and societal easy button and instant gratification mentality. Why put in work and time when tech can do it for me? It’s disheartening. I’d take the work ethic, persistence and mindset of men 35 years ago, whether hunting, working or playing, compared to today. No...

    Retrieving game law

Had the same thing happen about 4 years ago. I took it down and laid it in my neighbors field. Wasn’t my neighbor btw. It was a guy my neighbor gave permission to. If he would asked I probably would have said ok as the only option was shooting in my neighbors field. The stand was taken, I...

    Retrieving game law

On my northern border my lines run east/west and north/south with great cover my side running each way. Neighbor has an alfalfa field over both fence lines. Had a guy sitting 30 yards over my fence shooting deer coming from cover into the alfalfa and returning to cover once shot. Pissed me...

    Retrieving game law

What’s the definition of fence sitting? I get right on the fence but some will say 40, 100 feet off the fence is too close. I don’t like it but if someone is one their side, shoots the animal on their side, not much you can do. However, I do believe property owners should be notified if...
