    Blast from the past.

I think this is a good, accurate summation, FWIW. ^^ Just a tangent from my perspective after reading and digesting so many of the related thoughts expressed here, particularly in the last month or so... While I definitely heard, and read, about low population concerns from others over the...

    Pro’s and con’s of selling without doing a 1031

You aren't wrong. ^^ One could get the impression that those of us that work and pay taxes are somehow funding many who do not. Weird.

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

FWIW, I agree. ^^ I also think that those that supplemental feed, not just food plots, but mineral/grain, enhanced feed, can get the best results...maybe even better than 5 in 10. Consider penned deer...I think those deer seem to grow A LOT more antler in a year than a wild deer at the same...

Poll Question #7: Would you support ending all seasons by December 31?

I am still a Knight muzzy guy, still using actual blackpowder, not pellets. :) But, I think it was 2022, or earlier, that I last busted it out of the safe. Also, I have loaned my trusty, a little bit rusty, 870 out several times over the years. I do have a rifled barrel for it nowadays...

    Blast from the past.

Another FWIW anecdote...I just returned home from watching the Hawks play the Illini in men's BB at CHA. I overheard 3 guys talking deer hunting in the row behind me. Their words would fit right in this thread..."We used to have big bucks...". "It sucked this year..." erc. At least one of...

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

Just an anecdote...I have looked at 2 separate farms in the past 60 days or so and both are in historically strong areas and one had zero current year buck pics to show off and the other one had one "shooter" from this year. YIKES! Should have been at least 4 or 5 to look at IMO.

    Blast from the past.

Yep, back when we could only shoot one buck a year. Er, wait a minute...never mind. :)

Poll Question #8: Would you support legislation to eliminate a buck tag

The problem is that not everyone similarly restricts themseves. :)

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

A one buck limit where people aren't even shooting one buck per year now does nothing.

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

Yep...if I remember correctly, only about 1 in 4 people drew the anysex tag. Something like that anyway... Back then I participated in old fashioned deer drives, egad, even...party hunting. :) If there were 10 of us, it seemed like only two or three of us had anysex tags.

Poll Question #5: Should mowing standing corn be illegal?

FWIW, I do agree that Rocky Raccoon does A LOT of damage to cornfields that deer then get blamed for, but where I have seen serious deer damage to standing stalks is when the growing stalks are just the right height and Mrs. Doe and Mr. Buck walk right down a row and nip off the silk/ear. I...

    Thermal Bow Site

Welp...two things... 1. I guess we won't need the cell cams to tell us when Mr. Big is "daylighting" 24/7 anymore. Kidding, not kidding. 2. I can hear the arguments in favor of this now..."It's legal..."., "I work first shift and can only hunt at night...", etc. This is madness IMO, but...

Poll Question #5: Should mowing standing corn be illegal?

I would agree.. ^^ Yes, deer will eat it off the stalk, but really flock to it when it is made easy for them via mowing.

Buffer Strips - Habitat and Water

While I haven't hunted this way in quite a few years now, I used to make a point of doing 1 or 2 float trips down a small or mid-sized river each fall. We were mainly interested in bagging ducks, geese, pheasants, etc, not deer, although we commonly saw deer and turkey, and plenty of other...

Poll Question #8: Would you support legislation to eliminate a buck tag

I am pretty close to neutral on this, but would consider it foolish to do only this in isolation. In my area...older bucks are very scarce now and no one I know shoots 2 bucks per year, let alone 3. Additionally, three of us contiguous LO's are already shooting ZERO bucks a year the majority...

Poll Question #11: Should NRLO get yearly buck tags with a minimum qualifying acres

Similarly...and I have thought this thought...if this ever did happen, I would sell out, profit like a bandit, and find something else to do with the windfall as deer hunting as we have known it will cease to exist in this state. (Like, and even worse than, Illinois, IMO.) But, like you, and...

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

Yep...I have had people admit to me that they "tracked" me electronically and proceeded to share thoughts/questions/opinions about my farm. What? Well now the hunting sucks enough that I don't care :), but it is a little spooky.

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

I saw a post on Facebook today from Don Higgins where he expressed some skepticism about the "rush" to "one buck" policies as a solution. (Paraphrased) But I thought it was interesting in light of this thread/conversation. I am curious, for the "Indiana did it and look at them now" crowd...in...

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

Well said. ^^ I think it is fallacious to label this thread as a "pissing match". A healthy, respectful conversation, or even a debate, is a good thing IMO. If there has been disrespect or blatantly argumentative replies...I have missed them. The reality is that "our problem" is complex AND...

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

I don't know the answer to your question, but I do know that a good number of people will have the LO where they hunt get a LO tag...which they then may, or may not, use themselves. I have seen where the LO tag, gets applied to one of the first bucks harvested by the group so "Farmer Brown"...
