January doe population management (shed buck season)

I really hope this is a done deal and it for sure removed the late antlerless “ rifle season” and the excess tag season. These were separate seasons but ran concurrently. The legal weapons were also different allowing rifles as small as .223 during the excess season but the late anterless was...

Current State of the Land Market

Of the 8 transactions that I listed above 5 of the eight sellers are non residents. Only 2 of the Buyers are Non Resident. Also interestingly enough 4 of the Resident buyers have moved here within the last 5 years.

Current State of the Land Market

I have 8 farm sales that we are working on getting closed for June and July . Some I am representing the buyer some the seller some are both. These are all Rec based farms with some tillable and some with CRP . The highest priced one will sell at 6400 an acre ,in Decatur the lowest priced closed...

CRP Programs- Worth it? Which ones?

With the low cash rent I would assume the CRP rates are similar. Good cover with income should add value to a hunting property. We are in a lower CRP payment phase than the previous 10 years with many reenrollments offering lower rents.CRP would cap the income for the term of the contract. Make...

Oust preplant for Aus Trees ?

I will answer my own question just in case it helps someone else. According to the State Forester. Oust XP can be used on Aus trees at a rate of about 1 oz per acre. We got every thing plant so will see how it goes.

    Farm Bill

Although it sounds counterintuitive I did read some recommendations from different conservations groups wanting to keep the years of eligibility the same 2012-2017. The reasoning was to discourage marginal land from being broke out for the purpose of CRP. I have never thought of it from that...

    HF 2657 - special lottery for non-residents

The Bills sponsor was blindsided by the opposition to this Bill. Farm Bureau was opposed also and had a member speak against the Bill. Fun day at the Capital.

    Retrieving game law

Another part that ties into this is the growing practice of High fences. Both times i have been involved in the building of high fences it was a direct result of someone sitting on the property line and hunting knowing they could retrieve anything they shot without asking. So i guess if...

    Timber guys...?

I would put a post on Facebook market place on. sawmill groups the size and the full lenght should appeal to someone. Ash is getting to be a rare wood in many areas would be a shame to make firewood out of it

    HF 2657 - special lottery for non-residents

I don’t really understand the filing tax part of this bill. The original bill has moved quietly until they added the ammendment. I am in the minority here but I support giving a Non Resident Landowner priority over other Non Residents. Another positive of this bill is the 160 acre Mininum gives...

Thermal Hunting Regulation Ideas, Poaching, all groups- SOLUTIONS!

Another approach would be to walk back the law and make Suppressor's Illegal like they used to be. Would be pretty easy to join forces with the Anti Gun crowd to help with support

t think trapping season just closed last week. You could trap coons still on your own land or as an "agent" for the landowner I think.

The biologist was not Jace. The guys name was Dave Hoffman he is a very knowledgeable Biologist and has run other programs for the DNR such as Swans and Otter Reintroduction. He is also a serious hunter himself. Ironically i had pheasant hunted with Jace a few days before this but didnt want to...

    IW 2026 Poll Results

Great work on getting this poll put together. I wish there was a way to poll all the game wardens in the State to learn what they believe the challenges to the deer herd are and what changes could be made. I had a DNR Biologist stop during first gun season. We had 3 bucks hanging in the shop...

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

After following this thread for the past 42+ pages it has become obvious that there is very little hope for Iowa to produce giant deer “Organically” meaning on the average random farm in Iowa. I truly believe that going to one Buck would be the quickest path to improving the Quality on more of a...
