I like the later seasons. It is so warm in september/October and you have to rush them to a locker, which are usually closed when I can hunt on the weekend.... Later seasons let us kill the does we want without having to worry about them rotting. And you can't get venison at the grocery store...
Biological sense or not, it fills their freezers!
Not everyone hunts for trophy reasons. In fact, it is the majority.
I find it hard to have fun in the field if I am always worrying about someone else shooting a deer that someday I may have a chance at, stands on the fence, blah, blah. I just...
I could personally care less when people hunt or what they shoot. The purpose of deer season is to kill deer. Are those opposed to killing a shed buck also opposed to all the 1.5 that are knowingly killed as bucks?
If all the bucks were left to 'grow up', then it just wouldn't be the same...
I shot a drop-tine buck years back that had the drop broke off when I shot him. The taxi did a real nice job recreating it from pics we had, but after I got it back, I wish I would have not had it repaired. Even though it looks great, I know it is 'fake' and it just bothers me when I look at it.
Kelly - the public has access up to the high water mark (meaning the 'bank' and not the 'flood line') of the state's defined MEANDERING streams. Meaning the public can hunt/trap the banks of the said rivers, camp on sandbars, etc. And there are only a few defined as MEANDERING as pointed out in...
Look at the 'Intimidator' from Revoluion. It seems to have all you want, and I love the buck I had mounted on it.

I am not asking about the main river channel, but rather a backwater off of the river that comes from a feeder stream. I would take the high water mark to mean within the banks of the river or backwater, but not a flood line. The real question is does the statement from the dnr site above...
Unless you are 8 feet tall, I wouldn't worry about it. Deer will cross it with no issue. It is bothering you more than it is bothering them. And they will come to the food....
I like to do a little duck hunting and was wondering if anyone knows what the rules are for hunting the backwaters of a meandering river. Is it legal for the public to hunt as long as you stay below the normal high water line, or do you need the landowners permission?
Too often the old saying 'Hit them high, wave goodbye' seems to prove true.
You never know though, so good luck! I would also wait till tomorrow. If he is dead now, he will still be dead then.
Went out with a buddy to his spot opening morning of 2006 hoping to shoot a few does, but ended up with this guy. He was actually the first deer I saw that day/year.
Taped out at 153ish. Too bad he forgot to grow his G2s....
His short, slick cape is one of the favorites of my mounts.
Was it over a mineral lick? If so, try moving it to a trail. it seems the buck activity slows on them at the end of summer, about the time the velvet is peeling.
The bachelor groups are also breaking up and the bucks are spreading out.
