Yep if I'm using multiple hens I stick one close to the blind and put the jake at 8-9 yards with another hen about 3-4 yards to the right like he's chasing her.
Since I was processing anyway I cut one boob up seasoned up, wrapped in bacon and through on the BBQ. Family loves this and big thanks to Grubby for the kabob vs toothpick tip.
It was a great day to be out!!
The toms gobbled hard on the roost and had 3 drop down at 6am. It wasn't long after I gave them a few love notes & put my jake into motion that they came on a string. The lead bird came right in and pounded my jake and before I could get a shot off the other...
One of my most memorable hunts was after a severe storm had passed through. Tom finally came in all wet and couldn't keep his fan out as the wind was blowing so hard. Smoked him and was my first tom with a bow. Good luck to you guys!!
Anyone else take vacation for opening week and having second thoughts with the crazy weather this year?
I'm going anyway forecast shows a few good days in NC Iowa and the birds were pretty vocal this week.
Good luck to all trying to fill a youth tag this weekend!!
