    Cereal Grains and cover crops

planting the same mix Labor Day, question- do you need to inoculate the peas (Austrian) or not bother since they are just going to get hammered early? Need to order inoculate for some clover so was just wondering if I should spend the money on the pea inoculate.

    Oats

Last year I planted Plot Spike oats ($25+ a bag)and they did not come up worth a .... , got some plain oats that a cattle farmer friend feeds his cattle (NC Jerry $9 a bushel)and and they came up great and the deer demolished them. Luckily I found this site and have learned my lesson about...

    Clover

Thanks, I plan on planting Labor day weekend with another rye/pea/oat/clover plot that I have to do down there. Will clover (by itself after rye dies out) around a pond work?

    Clover

Dbltree - the owner of one of the properties I hunt just had a new pond built and We are looking for a perennial that will control erosion and feed deer at the same time. would Sweet Spot Northern mix be a viable option for planting on the dam and around the banks? Or should we go with some...

    Brassicas

Southern Iowa brassica mix after one week and a couple inches of rain. This was pasture before being tilled under and seeded, no tilled corn to the right got planted late and sprayed late isn't going to produce any corn, good advice on having multiple food sources in one spot as clover and...

    Clover

I've been planning on planting white clover/oats this weekend, but it doesn't look like mother nature is going to cooperate. Between the kid's soccer and baseball its going to be hard to find a weekend in May to plant. I've been looking through this post but haven't seen anything about when is...

    Brassicas

Has anyone ever planted carrots as part of their brassica mix? Not that I'd use "buck on the bag" mixes, but came across this product: Big-N-Beasty Brassicas with carrots. This mix contains; Sugar Beets, Purple Top Forage Turnip, Carrots, Winfred Forage Rape, Dwarf Essex Rape, and Hunter Forage...

    Clover

Last year I planted WI Imperial clover, I know it was a rookie mistake, when planting I used Delta Ag seed coat and the plot turned out good and is doing good again this spring. This year in some new plots I'm using resolute and ladino, that I got from a local dealer. I also will be applying...

Not sure this is the right thread to post in, but does anyone have the bag label / "Ingredients" of Whitetail Institutes' No-plow?

    Cereal Grains and cover crops

If I added 100# of urea p/A when planting rye this Friday would the benefits I get in growth this late in the season be worth the investment? I just talked to the local seed guy and he thinks 46-0-0 wouldn't do me any good now and I'd be better off with 13-13-13, 19-19-19 or even 6-24-24, but...

    Cereal Grains and cover crops

Thanks! I seeded rye into a couple acres of soybeans that the deer never let get over six inches on 8/28, checked it last week and rye was doing good. I have it right next to some PlotSpike oats so we'll see if there is any difference to my deer. I also have 3 acres of a failed WTI brassica...

Roundup Ready Corn & Soybean Food Plot

Thanks for the great info! I used Plot Saver a couple years ago and it worked ok, but you have to keep reapplying the spray. This looks like a lot better option when its an 1 1/2 hour trip to your ground.

Roundup Ready Corn & Soybean Food Plot

Can you elaborate on the electric fence option? We have the same problem with corn and soy beans in our plots, deer never let them get more than a few inches tall. Do you simply add an electric fence around the plots and it keeps them out? The picture showed that you maybe had a single strand...

    Cereal Grains and cover crops

If you could only plant one cereal grain, winter rye or oats and everything else was equal (ground, fertilizer, grazing, etc..) what do you think would be the best attractant for deer?
