    Unique Hunting Tactics

What a great post! This is why I joined this site, to share ideas, info, "tricks of our trade" with other serious hunters. Much better than some of what has been posted here lately. I use clothes pins for a lot of stuff... Facemask: I don't like the way a lot of facemasks hang loose aroung...

    Missouri/Iowa working together

pharmer, Actually, a close friend of mine who is a conservation agent in Missouri just issued some tickets recently to some folks who reside in Missouri, but have been claiming residency in Iowa. As far as explaining goes, I doubt it's something "winable" in court. Aren't computers a...

    Blinds

Along w/ everybody else, Double Bull. I have the BS-5, and is plenty roomy enough for two (ask trpr!) They are pretty pricey, so me and another buddy went in 1/2's and we just share it. That took some of the ouch of the price tag. Money well spent for bow hunting gobblers. Good luck. MO

    Check Stations for Iowa

Just another quick thought on check stations...I'm from Missouri and have been checking my deer and turkeys for about the last 25 years. In fact, Missouri is going to a "tele-check" system where the telephone or internet is used to obtain some type of confirmation number that you write on your...

    Windex anyone?

Just a quick question concerning cleaning muzzleloaders... I have read and heard from others that Windex is often used to clean in-line muzzleloaders. I'm asuming it has something to do with the amonia in the formula to break down powder/Pyrodex residue. Has anyone used this, and if so, does it...

I stand corrected...Thanks for the imput. Kinda hard to tell from the submitted photo. Again, a really nice buck and I'm sure the hunter was proud to take him. MO

    freak bow buck

Neat looking deer...As I was checking out his headgear, I couldn't help but to think of the new regulations in several Missouri (my home state) counties. Had this buck, an obvious mature animal, wandered within bow range of my treestand this fall, by law I would have not been able to legally...

From Ukraine-Thanks for Giving Me A Taste of Home

Re: From Ukraine-Thanks for Giving Me A Taste of Greetings Young Buck, Great to hear of others on this site with similar backgrounds! I spent 12 days on a mission trip in Minsk and Borisov, Belarus this last April. The Lord has really laid these folks on my heart and I cannot wait to go...

    Another prayer request

My prayers are lifted up to you and your family. I am very encouraged to hear iowawhitetailers share not only their love for our sport, but also other matters such as prayer requests concerning serious health concerns, etc. I know this is a site devoted to whitetails, but I see nothing wrong...

    Scoring Question

Thanks a bunch, that's pretty easy. Here's what I came up with... 171 6/8 gross and 159 3/8 net as a 9 point. The head was found in a guy's barn and he let me "borrow" it to try to score it. I'll take a couple of digital pix of it and try to post it. Thanks again. MO

    Scoring Question

For anybody that's up on measuring antlers...I'm tinkering with trying to score a pretty impressive 9 point buck which was found dead and is still on the skull. Following the instructions as best as I can, I come up with: right antler 83 3/8 and left antler as 78 5/8. Now, my question concerns...

Good news for Missouri deer hunters

Living in Missouri, and hunting in some of the effected northern counties, I couldn't help but jump in on this one. I, too, am hopeful that the new 4 point rule will increase the number of more mature bucks to be hunted in future years. I've passed on countless 1.5 to 2.5 year old bucks...

What do you do for a living?

I'm a Missouri State Trooper, married to an Iowa girl (Davenport) with three lovely little girls. I also teach part-time at a local college and am active in my church. Oh, and I love to hunt deer and turkeys with my Q2XL! MO

    Squirrels

Just a suggetion, but do you have a .22 rifle that is chambered for .22 shorts? Might be a little more challenging, however, it might encourage him to "aim small, miss small." Also, might damage less meat with a head-neck shot. If a .22 is not an option, probably the .410. I have lot's of...
