    video cameras

I agree with IADroptine, the cold can drain your battery. I just bought a Sony digital camera and have filmed several smaller bucks, and the recovery of the buck I killed in Iowa on Nov 2. Also, the comment on manual focus is right on the money. I have some tree limbs in focus, with out of...

    Rattle bags vs. antlers????

I've had good luck with both. The earliest I've rattled in a buck and taken him was on Oct 20. The lasted was Dec 20. Same farm, same tree, about 3-4 years apart. Like most, I enjoy the compact rattle bag, but the sound of the real thing is hard to beat. Good luck... MO

    11/4 Success

Limb, congratulations on a really nice buck with lots of character. Also, good job taking time to get some great in the field photos. Judging from the past couple years that I've been visiting this site, it appears you are doing something right! MO

    First Iowa Buck

Northern Whitetails, no it's not my first whitetail. I've killed somewhere around 40 in the last 25 years in Missouri. About 15 of those have been taken with archery gear. With the help of a friend of mine, known as Trpr on this site, I've discovered IOWA WHITETAILS!!! What can I say, I'm...

What is your maximum bow shot?

Yesterday morning I took my first Iowa deer at a distance later determined by a range finder at 31 yards. About 15 seconds before I shot him, I passed a 15-17 yard shot due to some overhanging limbs. I only took the longer shot since EVERYTHING was perfect, ie broadside, head down, calm wind...

    First Iowa Buck

Ken, thanks again for a great hunt!! Hopefully I can repay you come April with another big Missouri longbeard. Good luck with that 'Booner in the "magic timber". MO

    the name game!

Mine kinda has a double meaning...MO-Antlertips. MO, the standard abreviation for Missouri, my home state, and sometimes mo is slang for "more". So bring on more antlertips in Missouri! Plus, Trpr was already taken (sorry Ken, you know REAL state troopers drive Crown Vic's, not mini-vans he-he)

    Cabela's...Kansas City, WOW!

Ok Hawkeye, are you talking about the lifesize mount? If so, I'll ask around and see if I can find you a score. I'm not a big mule deer guy, but the mule deer wing is pretty impressive, isn't it? One of the more unique trophy mounts is a 3X3 whitetail from Ohio, with a gross score of 153"...

    Cabela's...Kansas City, WOW!

I am familiar with the parking woes of which you speak! Not only do I occassionally post on this site, I was fortunate to get a part-time job at the Cabela's store in KC. So, when not chasing speeders and drunks on I-29, I work at one of the coolest stores in the area. And, the discounts are...

Can someone advise me the FREE link to terraserver to get satellite image photographs. It's been posted on here before, but I've lost it. Thanks. MO

    Hunting Missouri

Mercer County borders Iowa, you'll find Linn County a little farther south. I've hunted Linn County before, but not Mercer. Both have lots of potential. Non-resident tags can be bought over the counter, they're $120, which lets you take two deer (only one antlered before gun season)and two...

    NR Draw Results

Hey Trpr, tried to catch you at home to tell you the good news. Yep, I'll be headed to zone 4 with bow in hand. Can't wait. I hope I get a crack at one of the bucks I've videoed. Now, I just need to work some overtime to pay the VISA bill. Extra work I'll gladly do knowing the potential that...

    First bow kill

Ken, congrats again on killing an Iowa longbeard with a bow! We've been putting it on them in Kansas, waiting for Monday to get here to fire it up on some Show-Me-State strutters. I love the way you wrote "concentrate, concentrate...whack!" Remember that next time I come to Iowa with a...

Looking for gun shops around Des Moines!

Big Timber, they're very similar to the Hogue grips. About $12 in most gun shops. Money well spent, I think. MO

Looking for gun shops around Des Moines!

Big Timber, just a hint on the grip thing. I carry a Glock model 22, .40 calibre, and have shot thousands of rounds thru it. I have a set of Pachmayr slip-on grips on my state issued gun and love them. They're kinda tricky to get on, and you have to be careful not to push them up too high...

    Hunter Harassment Case

Kinda long, but worth reading...I know there is a lot of interest on this site concerning legislative issues. Does Iowa have such a law on the books? Taken from the March '02 issue of the Missouri Conservationist: A Moniteau County woman who pleaded guilty to disrupting a deer hunt has become...

    2003 Iowa Deer Classic

Greg, a big "two thumbs up" on the Iowa Deer Classic. This was my second year to make the three hour trek to Des Moines from Missouri. Well worth it. Do you have any pull with the folks who put on the Missouri Deer Classic? I'm tired of walking around on the dirt floor of the Boone County...

    Video taping for a friend

The last two years I've videoed for a friend in Iowa, you know him in this forum as Trpr. While I can't say the outcome was the one we had hoped for (hehe), we still got some great footage of some bruiser bucks, and those bucks are (probably) still growing. Just a little wiser...right Ken? I...
