Didn't Think He Would Make It

This buck was hit with bow by the neighbor last November high on his right shoulder.. I got pictures of him in early December and he had already shed his antlers. This spring just after the snow had melted I got a picture of him and he was skin and bones. He looked like he wasn't going to make...

    Soybean Plots Looking Good

Both of my soybean plots planted on Memorial Day are looking good. They got off to a slow start with the cool weather we had in June and early July but with all the rain and hot humid weather lately they are catching up quickly. They are just starting to flower and by the pictures the deer are...

    Food Plot Usage

I don't mow my clover plots for a couple reasons. The does have their fawns bedded in them. The deer seem way more comfortable using the plots in the daytime. The chicory bolts and the deer will actually eat the top [bolt] before they eat the leave on chicory. I use to mow my clover all the time...

    Cuttings are growing

Planted a bunch of Red Doiser Dogwood, Elderberry, Silky Dogwood and a couple of willow cuttings the middle of May. Considering that after I planted the cuttings we had little rain for about 2 weeks a lot of the cuttings are showing growth. Unfortunately I have no means to water the cuttings...

Allopathic Effects of Rye and Brassicas Really Works

This is one of my soybean plots from this year. After planting my mix of rye, wheat, oats and winter peas in this plot for 4 years and then planting a brassica mix in it last summer it is almost completely weed free. I did not spray this plot this year or last year and I think I may not have to...

    Food plots

My favorite 3 are Standing soybeans , Brassica mix, and Cereal Grain mix that has Oats, Rye, Winter wheat with Austrian Winter Peas. I have found out that you are better off giving the deer a smorgasboard. By giving these 3 offerings you will have deer hitting your plots from September all the...

    Finally Turned Some Dirt

Did not intend to deceive any one. Just posted random pics of the days work. I did say in my original post that we had disced some plots for weed control. I would have planted the plot with all the weeds the same as the ones that I did plant. You have to remember that after the 1st pass with...

    Finally Turned Some Dirt

Just 1 pass and it was ready for planting. This plot was planted in brassicas last year which helps make the dirt work a lot easier. Another reason to rotate crops.

Some of the cuttings I planted 2 weeks ago are starting to sprout. The Elderberry and Willow are the 1st ones to sprout. Didn't see any sprouts on the ROD or Silky Dogwood yet.

    Finally Turned Some Dirt

It finally warmed up and dried out enough to plant my soybean plots. Planted a 2 acre and 1 acre plot. My son and I also disced another 4 acres for weed control for a late summer plantings. We got a bonus by finding 4 more sheds while we were working on the plots.
