This is a great site which I view quite often. We bowkill some good bucks here in Ct.every year. Here is a photo of an absolute brute that my buddy (who doesn't hunt) just took last week. This buck is on his property. I got my cousin permission to hunt this property last season and he saw it...
Another thing I have done in the past is,I color the feathers with Rit dye.It works very well with the feathers and is easy to do.I have also made fletching from goose feathers that were given to me by one of my buddies who hunts them.
DLO,that is the exact same method I have been using for a few years now.The only thing I did different was to use a heavy rubber mallet instead of a regular hammer;my thought is that it might lessen the chance of breaking the striker board of the little chopper. It really is great to kill a deer...
Buckhunter...you did not mention what brand of shafts you are shooting. If you are shooting goldtips you will not damage the shafts by scraping off the old fletching.Their camo finish is baked right into the shaft.I have refletched quite a few without any wear ever showing.Gametrackers buff tuff...
muddy...I'm shooting a montama blackgold trapdoor rest off of a ben pearson 38 special set at #71 lbs.I'm lauching camo goldtip big game 100's with 3" feathers with 100 gr. pts. at about 264-268 fps.The rest so far has performed flawlessly. It tuned just fine.I chose the trapdoor because I did...
fishbonker... The lw stands for left wing, the rw stands for right wing. You have to check and see which type of fletcher you purchased;left wing or right wing before you buy any feathers. This is because you cannot put left wing feathers in a right wing jig and vise versa. The left and right wing...
If anyone is still trying to decide on a new bow to slay the old wiley one with, try out the new Ben Pearson 38 Special, its a great bow.The vibex shock reducing media is built right into the riser.Great quality throughout. Can't wait to double lung a couple of big boys with it this...
I make all my arrows from scratch.I order bare shafts and take it from there;including cutting, dipping, cresting and chopping my own shield cut feathers.I only use carbon arrows. To prepare your shafts for fletching you can either wipe them down with alcohol or use prep rite shaft conditioner from...
Brent Thie;or anyone out there, this is a follow up to my posting on 06.14 regarding my potential new hunting spot in Marshalltown. The farm is approx. 1 mile from the Iowa River;just outside of Marretta. It is located just off E29 and 330 on 2024 200 St.Does anyone know how this area stacks up...
I'm from back east in Ct.and just aquired permission to bowhunt whitetails on a friends 300 acre old farm in Marshalltown.Anyone have any info. on how good the hunting is in this area?My friend says his farm is surrounded by corn with a few sparse acres of trees.Thanks.
Thanks for the response Brent.I recall my friend saying something about a river nearby but will have to double check.I know they also raised alot of hogs there at one time.
