If you plan to sell the farm in the future, you could claim the extra expenses as a defered investement election expense and write them off in the future against any capital gain you would have.

I'm certain you could find an accountant that would allow you to claim all the expenses. Doesn't make it right, but I'm sure you could find one. If the extra expenses are a big deal, you should have the tillable acres custom farmed, or possibly even 50/50 crop share.

Schedule F if you have production risk, otherwise it is rental income. Lots of accountants bend the rules when it comes to farms though.
