    RR Beans

I hope to drill some RR Beans in the next week. My question is how deep soybeans need to be Ive RUPed the areas I'm going to plant and was wondering if I should till or if I could go notill? Some of the plots have pretty thin cover other spots have 10" tall oats. Im using a old JD drill.

    RR Corn?

I planted some RR corn a week ago. I did'nt spray or till beforehand and there's allot of weeds emerging. Is it ok to spray roundup now? The corn has'nt emerged yet but should any day.

    Roundup Coverage

I agree with dbltree. I think most farmers use a quart of roundup and 20 gallons water to the acre. I found a deal at a Teisons store for Glyphosate "Roundup" $45 for 2.5 gal jug it is 41% active ingrediant not sure how that compares to roundup from the elavator but should work for me. Check...

    My CP25 project

TP your site looks great you could burn it next spring that will give the natives a boost and set back the weeds. If your weeds arent that bad next spring I wouldnt mow, you should be fine you could get by spot mowing bad weed areas. You would be surprised how much the deer use your prairie. Be...

    direct seeding acorns

We direct seeded 24+ acres on our farm two years ago so far very happy with the results some of the ash and walnuts are over 4' found some oak close to 3'. Deer are using it pretty good. In the next few years it should create a great bedding area. To reforest a area I think its the only way to go.

    Field prep for NWSG?

Ditto to what JNRBRONC said. Some other things you could do is lightly disk the field in the fall then nuke it a week before you plant. I would also try to plant later in the spring say first part of june if the moisture is there that way the weeds should be taking off about the time you spray...

    home made mineral dump

1 part trace mineral salt, two parts dicalcium phosphate, top dress with arm + hammer baking wash not baking soda. I think the baking wash is sodium bicarbonate and baking soda is sodium carbonate. The baking wash is the deer crack.

    Native Grass ?

Yes you can but some of them wont germinate until the next year so dont expect to see a bunch of flowers right away. Also try to burn every other year that will help the forbs out. For more good info check out Prairie Moons website, they also have a very informative website.

    Native Grass ?

I'm by no means a expert but I would stay away from the switch. If you do use it use very little it is very invasive. I know a guy that had ounces per acre of switch in his mix and many other grasses and forbs and all you see is the switch. I think all the other grasses would do fine. Also look...

    apple trees

Has anyone had problems with gophers eating the roots of young apple trees? Ive had quite a few taken out by the little devils. Im thinking of planting some more this year and lining the hole with chicken wire. Does anyone know if this would work or have any other Ideas besides the obvious of...

    Resident Prairie grass expert

Im by no means a expert but be carefull with switchgrass it is great cover but very invasive. If you plant much for forbs the switch will overtake them. I like Big Blue, Lil Blue, Indian grass, Side oats, canada wild rye and then as many forbs as you can afford. The Grasses provide great cover...
