Thanks for the advise Sligh and Dbl. I'll have to get them secured well when I get some mulch on them. I hadn't figured that the deer would raise much heck with them.
LoessHillsArcher, I can't see your pictures due to the web blocker here at work but it sounds like you have a good plan...
I ordered 5 apple trees from cummins nursery this spring and figured I'd give an update on how they are doing. I ordered 3 Florina querina, 1 enterprise, and 1 goldrush. The size Florinas that I paid for weren't available so they sent an extra 3 zestar to compensate for the difference. The...
Great topic! I've enjoyed reading about the different types of ground you fellas get to stomp around on.
I hunt on multiple pieces of ground but the majority of my time is spent on my fathers land (115 ac) and ground that is owned by the company that I work for (roughly 4000 ac of which I...
What does everyone do to get rid of the rubber smell that comes with their rubber boots? I just picked up a pair of Cabelas 1200 gram knee highs on sale and I'm really happy with the boot but they have a very strong odor. Any tricks to remove the smell?
I guess I can see both sides of the argument...I certainly have nothing against anyone that takes a skull home that they had no "foul dealings" with. However, you can't have your cake and eat it too. I live in Wisconsin where it is legal to possess any bucks skull once the scavangers have fed...
I know for sure that spraying and broadcasting brassicas works, but I'm not sure whether the rye will make good enough seed to soil contact seeing how it is a large seed. It would be worth a try I suppose, maybe someone else has had experience with a similar situation.
Red osier dogwood and speckled alder(also known as tag alder) would be able to tolerate "wet feet" although the alders would be best on high spots adjacent to any standing water. Alders won't be browsed but do create awesome cover, deer love browsing the red osier. Both of these could probably...
There's bigger fish to fry in our nation at this time and these idiots are wasting our tax dollars coming up with this hogwash. This crap burns me up. I know there are alot of morons out there, it's just to bad that a good lot of them are goverment officials.
I have a garmin 60csx and i've been very happy with it. It does really well under heavy canopy and is easy to use. I think I may have paid around 200 bucks for mine but I can't remember. There may be some deals to be had on this model...it was brand new to the market when I purchased it.
Re: Timber Stand Improvment - identifing trees
I was in the woods today and i found 3 volunteer apple trees that I would like to release to promote fruiting. I have multiple black oaks that are leaning over the top of the apples which will need to go to allow for ample light to produce fruit...
First off I have to say Great idea, this should be a cool way to stimulate some interesting conversation and help us all become better hunters.
While looking at you're aerial photo I noticed that the heavy creek crossings are both located after a sharp bend in the river and when I was thinking...
No idea on the author but some interesting points made. Times certainly have changed, but I don't necessarily agree with the thought that public ground offers low quality hunting. Around home in Wisconsin I wouldn't be caught dead on public ground during gun season, but if you look at the...
I like single coyotes' idea. It would be great to have some perspective as to why you are improving a certain area... i.e. I'm edge feathering this area to funnel deer near a pre-selected tree. Showing the big picture on aerial photo's would be really nice compared to just showing a bunch of...
Funny but definitely disturbing. I agree with blake about this guy breaking a cardinal rule of gun safety, but he couldn't even tell the difference between an elk and llama while he was dressing it out. You would think you'd do enough research prior to traveling across the country to hunt elk...
