    RMNP - vacation 06

Bagging Long's was something I wanted to do for a long time. You might try just hiking to the Keyhole on Long's,it's all trail except for the Boulder Field, really spectacular view looking through the Keyhole. I hit the trail at 4:31 am, summitted at 11:30. I had a real tough time at the...

    RMNP - vacation 06

I was out there at the end of June. Saw lot's of elk, one bunch of 10 or so bulls stopped and stood just off the road near the vistors center and let the crowd take pictures. They are pretty much tame critters. I also managed to climb Long's Peak. Talk about an adventure, not for the out of...

    Indian Artifact What is it?

If you can... take it to the U of I anthropology dept and have a prof. inspect. If it's an Indian tool, they'll know who made, when it was made, and what it was used for. I have a perfectly round stone, about the size of a tennis ball; that I thought had to be an Indian tool of some sorts...

    Muzzleloaders and scopes

I went with a Bushnell 3200 1.5x - 4.5x 32mm Firefly scope for my Omega. It took me a while to get used to shooting with a scope, having shot a GPR for the last 15 years, but I'm very comfortable with it now. I usually hunt with it on 2x and dial it up to 4.5 if needed. I don't and am not...

    Arrowhead

What's the dimension's? It might be a spear point, not an arrowhead. Take it to the U of I archeaology dept. and show it to a prof. They'll be able to tell you what culture made it and about when it was made.

I know this has been discussed...but curious

I own a jerky shooter and it works as advertised. Be careful when mixing the spices into the meat, make sure you have the correct amount. A buddy of mine made a batch and he wanted it extra spicy so he put extra seasoning in a batch and that stuff was so salty I couldn't eat it. We use Hi...

    New Muzzleloader

I own a SS laminated Omega. When I bought it new last year one of the scope base mounting screw holes was stripped. I had to ship it back to T/C for a new barrel assembly. I had to pay shipping to T/C even though the defect was a manufacturing issue. Other than that hassle I've been real...

    Processing venison

I bone out all the meat. Front shoulders go into the grind bowl. Backstraps are cut about an inch thick, my wife pounds these out flat and makes them into the best oven fried backstap steaks you've ever tasted. The hind quarters are made into roasts, cut up into cubes for stew, cut into smal...

    Special hunt with my daughter.

Sat. evening I took my 8 year old daughter with me, she just turned 8 a couple weeks ago. Every year I take each daughter (I have two) on a couple hunts just to expose them to bow hunting, deer, and nature. After arriving at the farm I hunt, I’m putting on my gear and I smell perfume. My...

    Had an OLN type hunt.

I just have to share the "Outdoor Life Network" type hunt I had last evening with the ML. Took off a little early from work and made it to my hunting ground around five pm. A quick survey revealed that the neighbor had picked his corn but the corn on our property was still standing. The...

    Mountain lion spotted by Marengo??

Isn't it great. Seems like I hear a mountain lion story once a week. Unless I see a hide or a black helicopter, I ain't believen' it.

    Mountain lion spotted by Marengo??

Until I see the photo, I say this is pure rumor... but I was talking to a friend on Sat. and he knows someone who's trail cam snapped a mountain lion. So this is officially a friend of a friend report. My friend hasn't seen the trail cam photo either, so take this report with a tablespoon of salt.
