    Alfalfa

I have a 3 acre field that was in soybeans this year. I'd like to plant it in alfalfa next year. I planted RR alfalfa on my old farm and liked the results. I planted the alfalfa in the fall and got good results, but would like to plant it this spring so it will be growing well by fall. I...

    Your thoughts for next year

Trerv33, thanks for the advice but you guessed right, it is a government program and I have to do it. We'll see how it goes. Did you do any burnoffs while you had the forbes? I have to mow it 3 times a year and burn it once every 3 years.

    Your thoughts for next year

We're making changes for next year and I would like your thoughts. I have 166 acres, 30 acres is open the rest is hard woods with lots of oaks. We're doing TSI on 39 acres through a state program this winter. In the front of the farm, we're changing from corn to native grasses and forbes...

    It's Official

You'll enjoy retirement if you keep busy. I have. Every year I take at least 4 hunting trips. While you're still young and healthy go for it.

    Jimmy Big Time

Don't know why Bracket has a big following but he seems to. The guys on ArcheryTalk love him. Jimmy is ridiculous at times but generally he's pretty innovative and funny. I didn't know it was back on the air. Haven't watched much TV in the last few months. At the ATA show the talk was he...

    Convincing neighbor to do QDMA

We don't have that heavy a population of deer unfortunately. I think he is in it for the money and nothing else. I guess the bottom line is he can do as he pleases since he leases the place. I'll have to hope the deer find sanctuary in my place when all hell breaks loose on his place.

    Convincing neighbor to do QDMA

A guy leases the land beside my farm. He charges for people to day hunt there. Unfortunately the hunters shoot anything that's legal. We have a 4 point restriction in the county but they don't let young bucks grow up. Any ideas how I can convince him to begin quality deer management? I...

    Broadcasting rate for alfalfa

Thanks Luck, now I understand. My apologies to Hat Trick. What would you recommend I do. I have already bought the alfalfa. Should I plant clover or something else this fall and try to do the alfalfa in the spring?

With that kind of response I'll disregard it. Sorry you wasted my time and yours.

    Broadcasting rate for alfalfa

I want to reseed a field and will be using a Herd seeder, how many pounds should I broadcast per acre?

What to plant in clay soil

I have some areas (road width size) that lead into my larger food plots. I'd like to plant something in them but they are heavy clay and don't hold much water. Some of the strips get a lot of sun; others don't get much. Is there anything I can plant in them to provide a food source and...

    Eagle Seed

I'm planning to plant about 4 acres of Eagle's Manager Mix this year. It's mainly soybeans with some other things thrown in. Just wondered if anyone has used it? What kind of results did you have?

Crop rotation from milo to alfalfa

I have 4 acres currently planted in milo. Next spring I'd like to plant alfalfa in this field. Of course I'll get a soil report but normally will I have to add much fertilizer and lime to get the alfalfa going? This field is on a hill top and so drainage should be good which I understand is...

    Sunflower failure

I planted about 1/3 acre of sunflowers for doves and turkeys. It came up and looked good and then died. The local MFA guy said if I had sprayed the field in the last year that was the reason. I used 2-4D to kill the weeds before I planted. Looks like another lesson learned for a rookie. Let...
