I'm jumping on the bandwagon and saying take out the 8. Get his genetics out of your herd and give the younger deer a chance to "own" the farm. Completely your call but knowing my luck, I'd make the 8 my target and not wait out on the other deer. Mature buck=trophy buck in my book.
There's some good ground down around Eldon, Iowa. Its in the southeast part of the state in Wapello/Davis county. I live right by there and hunt there some even though I have my own farm simply because its such a good spot. Lots of 150+ deer in there, and I've seen some over 180. Get in shape...
That's what I've heard. Wonder if putting out watering tanks would help keep them out of the parasites' breeding grounds? From what I've read they become infested with the disease while they're in mud around water sources..
