I decided to give it a try today about noon from Omaha. The website said I80 was closed but we had absolutely no problems. It was dry pavement 99.9% of the way. Wish I would have left earlier in the morning now.
That is a good idea about the non-camo being easier to find and probably especially true for a kid who might be more inclined to drop or forget something. Since I bought him a camo Nikon 800 range finder (Dad has the plain black BTW) at Christmas I thought I'd get the camo version of the binos...
Anyone know what Nikon is doing with their product line? I was going to buy my son a pair of these in camo and was told they are now discontinued but the plain black is still in.
I stopped by the vet today and asked about the deer bones. He said that while he could not recommend bones be fed dogs due to the liability of fragmentation he did say that he gives his dogs bones all the time as it is good for their dental hygeine. When I explained the ribs versus leg bones he...
I always tell my wife the general property I am planning to hunt. I have two Garmin Rhino 130's that my son and I use to communicate with when hunting. If hunting alone, I leave one in the truck. The units keep track of each other and it should be pretty easy to find me if I should have an...
Thanks for the replies. I ended up just giving them scraps again. My wife would probably freak out anyway if she knew I was giving them bones. My concern here is for the lab, he practically inhales his food and if given a bone wouldn't give up on it until gone. I was thinking that maybe the ribs...
I am trying to get motivated to head out to the garage and get started on my eighth and possibly final deer for the season. I often toss my Lab and GSP pieces of rib and flank meat as I go and they have yet to complain about it. In fact, they are more excited about heading out there than I am...
My apologies, "it" means muzzleloader.
Back to the question - has anyone used a rifle barrel with one of these things? I'm thinking about getting one for the late doe season when we can't use our bows.
Awhile back I posted a question on the TC Pro-Hunter which I ended up buying. I shot a doe with it last week and must admit it was kind of fun. I still have an archery tag to fill but my son will be using it this weekend as he is still after the elusive buck.
Has anyone actually bought rifle...
Congrats on the ML. I'm in the same boat, not sure what to do with it now that I bought it. I should have done it this last summer and taken the time to experiment w different powder/loads and made sure we get it sighted in properly.
Bwhntr4life - in going back through the cleaning thread I see where you use hot soapy water for cleaning. I presume that requires breaking it down for immersion??? Is it something you do every hunt or just at the end of the season? Sorry for all the questions, never had a muzzleloader and would...
Thanks for the responses. Over here we have the entire month of December to muzzleloader hunt but are limited on scopes to 1x. This must not be the case in Iowa after keeping a close eye on the scope thread.
Bwhntr4life - is it realistic to use an extra barrel with this gun or is it just a...
I don't know anything about muzzleloaders but am thinking about buying one for my son to use in December. He got his first archery deer (doe) this year and I was thinking a muzzleloader might up his odds of scoring a decent buck come December.
The TC Pro Hunter seems to get a lot of...
It is not as safe as the SOP harness but I have to admit to having worn it more than a few times this year. I bought it this summer when they became a sponsor on this site and used it hanging stands this summer. It is easier to deal with than the SOP but I have been tempted to cut the nylon rope...
I ordered one from 3RiversArchery which arrived while I was out the past several days. I'll have some time this week to try it out as I am cleaning and organizing gear as the pumpkin patrol is out this week.
Does anyone have any tricks for removing burrs besides picking them out one by one? I have a pair of fleece pants that I try to wear only in the stand. The other night in the excitement I made the mistake of leaving them on for the trail and drag. They are covered with all kinds of stuff, big...
