It would appear from what I am reading that they are basically increasing the non resident antlerless licenses and decreasing by 500 the numbe of any sex licenses. I am reading that they will issue 12,500 licenses and that 35% of the first 6000 will be bow tags. After the first 6000 tags all...
I heard about this incident while I was hunting near there in November. From whom I believe to be a very reliable source he told me about this incident. What is not mentioned is that these guys lease this farm and when they did not draw the buck tags, they tried to renig (sp) on the lease and...
I have never been able to figure out the reasons for this cap and upon reading some of the posts, I suppose that I can look at it in a different light. Initially, I thought that this was a harvest issue and could not figure out why if you had 6500 total NR tags you would want 65% of the hunters...
I heard of a similar case in appanoose county where there were 4 guys who leased land from a farmer there and did not draw the any sex tags. The farmer still wanted his money so they paid and bought the doe tags and all 4 shot nice bucks. Someone tipped off the DNR -- final result over 17,000...
Go into huntingpa.com and look for the link on the rothsville buck. For Pa he is a true monster, has it all width, mass, tine length but probably will only score out in the 180-190 range, far short of the record.
Saturday afternoon, while taking a break from hunting, I decided to become a PMA member and paid my annual $16 dues via Paypal as requested. I was only asked for my email address - no registration of name, user id etc - I still seem to only have what I had for free before. What went wrong...
I've nevehr really had much success with scents either here in Pa or during previous hunts in Iowa & Missouri. Here in SE Pa I don't think much of anything works other than being in the right place at the right time. I have had some success with calls in the midwest though so was wondering...
Will be hunting in the Centerville area from the 13th-20th of November. what do you guys think of using scents this time of the season and what would you recommend for that area. Thanks.
Funny thing, I have been hunting Iowa as much as I can draw a tag oveer the last 12 years and have never had any solicitation of any kind coming out of Iowa and neither has any of the other 6 guys I hunt with. I would guess that this solicitation is originating at a source other than the DNR
I have at work one of the Sony digitals. I don't ahve the model number available but hey make 2 models both of which you can load standard floppy discs in. Makes it very simple after the pictures are done to access on your computer. They have both models in Walmart and both have many...
I have been hunting Iowa now for about 10 years and will be heading your way on the 26th for this years late muzzleloader season. Personally,I don't have a problem with the NR situation in Iowa other than the drawing itself. I jsut can't understand why thiws draw is so late in the year. I...
I love coming to Iowa to hunt those big whitetails and will be coming again to hunt the late season with muzzleloader. I understand everyone's opinion on this license issue and am sympathetic to the residents side. Personally I do feel that maybe 16,000 tags would be too many but there can be a...
I use the 250 grain Barnes expander bullet in front of 120 grains of th new triple 7 powder. Get sub 1" groups at 100 yards and velocity of 2115fps. I played with 130 grains and sill get 1" groups at 2200fps. 2 of my buddies shoot the same load with the same results. Another shoots 110...
I evaluated most of the muzleloaders last winter and bought the t/c encore in March. 4 of my friends also bought them and we are all getting sub 1" groups at 100 yards with them. They are accurate an easy to clean. Add in the versatilit of other barrels and calibers and it is tough to beat.
There is the Iowa Guides & Outfitters Assoc. Try contacting Steve Shoop of J & S Trophy Hunts. I believe he is the President of the organization. Try his website at jstrophyhunts.com to get his phone number for the Iowa camp. He could possibly help you out
you can buy the barrels typically for $180-$240 depending on caliber and barrell length. You can also buy different forends and grips and use this as a singl shot handgun. There are also custom makers that will do barrels in just about any caliber. Check out foxridgeoutfitters.com, this is...
