    Acorns to Oaks!

The deer on my farm really like the burr oak acorns too. I have one burr oak that seems like it produces a bumper crop of acorns every year and the deer are there everyday. For some reason the burr oaks on my farm seem to produce a lot more acorns than the white oaks. Nots sure why?

    Tree stand precaution

Thanks for posting the picture for me Paul. ( I still haven't figured out how to do that) This stand was hung last august and the strap was chewed by November. Evidently I covered up a hole that something was living in. Just wanted to remind everyone to keep a close eye on your straps even...

MATURE Buck Movement Oct 1 - Dec 1 - YOUR Experience?

I love to hunt food plots anytime a cold front hits the last 2 weeks of Oct. Evenings only! i've seen more mature bucks on these hunts than any other time. It's critical that you have a good exit strategy for these stands though. You don't want to bust deer getting down. I've also had some...

    Tired Of Broken Trail Cams.....

If you buy a reconyx, you'll never regret it. I made the switch 3 years ago, and will only use reconyx now. I use the 600's and the old RC60's on scrapes where I don't want the bucks to notice any glow. I use the 500's everywhere else and really like them. The 500's take better night time...

    Brassicas

Between the drought and deer damage, my corn food plots were completely worthless. I mowed half of them today and tilled them under. Then I pretended that is was August 2nd (instead of Sept 2nd) and planted turnips, radishes, and rape. This is an experiment. I tilled in 200# of urea and am...

    Brassicas

How long can the brassica seed lay there waiting on a rain Paul? I planted my turnips, radishes, and rape 2 weeks ago and it still hasn't rained? No germination because I was planting into dust. When you say the plots are toast do you mean the seeds won't germinate or they just won't have...

    Questions for the hunters...

There are 2 factors I consider when deciding whether to target a buck. Genetic potential and age. My goal is to kill mature bucks (5.5 yrs old or older) unless they have bad genetics. I really want to get the genetically superior bucks to 5.5 years old before hunting them. I'll pass a 180"...

I had the same problem and realized I couldn't see all of the pictures unless I was logged onto the site. If I don't actually log on, many pictures are missing.

    Another shed thief!

I can understand how a live deer could be considered state property, but I don't understand why a shed would be? It seems like once it falls on the ground, it should be the personal property of the landowner just like a harvested deer is personal property once it's shot. I can see no...

    Another shed thief!

The problem is that even with multiple violations, he won't have to pay much. We need for these guys to get hit with much higher fines and a loss of hunting rights. At some point, there was someone here on IW that had connections with someone at IBA who was going to start working on tougher...

    difference 1 year can make

6x6, the inches your bucks are putting on are incredible. Do you do any supplemental feeding? Do you use minerals? I've had a couple of deer put on 30" - 40" in a year but nothing like that.

Awesome bucks! Obviously it looks like your management plan is working. I wouldn't change a thing!

    Trail cam reccomendations

Reconyx cameras are awesome. I've had all the other brands and got sick of dealing with problems and having to send them back. Also, the covert models (RC60 and HC600) don't have any visible light. You can literally put them right on a scrape and the bucks will never spook from them. The...

    Ground Blind

Cooter, I called customer service and they said I needed to send it in to them so they could lengthen the poles in the top section to make it tighter. Before I could get around to shipping it back to them, it accidentally fell out of my tractor bucket and got mowed into 100's of pieces. No...

    Ground Blind

i bought a DB several years ago and it was OK for a couple of years but then the roof started collapsing. I couldn't leave it out because if it rained, the roof would collapse and fill up with water. Very frustrating because I think I payed around $400 for it. I think this was a fluke though...

    Trespasser

gunrunr, thats great news that IBA and Farm Bureau could get involved! Please keep us posted and let us know what we can do to support this effort. My vote is for increased fines, retribution payed to the landowner, and a 1 yr loss of hunting privileges for anyone tresspassing. For...
