I say 145 gross, and go for the sheds unless you want him out of the gene pool. It looks like he has easy potential to gain 10 or 15 inches next year or the year after.
How come they're always dark colored racks up there? Do they all live in brush piles and not get any sun to bleach their racks? Seems like down here in Iowa, you get about half bleached racks from the deer that lay in the crp grass or fencelines and half darker "woods" racks.
I was watching a bigger buck than this one I shot, follow a doe on Monday morning. The doe wouldn't lead him closer than 40 yards and I didn't get a shot off. Less than one minute from the time I lost sight of the big boy, this one came in past my stand at about 18 yards. I was a little sour...
I slice the heart into 3/4 or inch slices, throw them in a gallon ziploc with a bottle of Italian dressing for a few hours or a day, then grill them like a steak. Good eatin!
This is my 9 year old son's first deer during the youth season. He made a great shot at about 40 yards with his 20 guage, equipped with a rifled barrel and rifled sights. He did most of the blood trailing on his own and was quite proud as was I!
