Hunting land I own from a blind on my side of the fence, just off the property line, only shooting on my side of the fence, to keep the interior of my 80 acres from being blown out walking to stands closer to interior.
Bag worms were horrible this past spring and I notice a load of them again. I also have had those trees and cedars die the past couple of years. In my research of bag worms it says they can kill those trees if bad enough infestation. It looked like Christmas ornaments on all my arborvitaes...
Mine were out last thursday already, about 2 inches. My miscanthus is already 8". I was surprised that both were out and about already. I wanted to get a gly spraying over the switch to kill the cool season grasses but missed my window. Dammit Jim.
Yes that looks like a good solution to that problem. I bet the wind blows there with it being so open.
Do you check all the tubes in the spring for mouse nests/girdle issues or do they seem like they stay free of those issues?
Rous, I frost seeded clover and chicory in Feb and it is not showing yet. I'm in NE. Like Skip, I have never had a frost seed failure. I have no doubt mine will be coming up and I'm sure yours will too. Good pic IBH.
and a helmet. I think you'll have a fine deer place in a while. The new growth should be great. Thanks for sharing.
I've been doing the same thing since Monday. Two times I had broken limbs that were caught up in a tree I was felling or broke off as falling that fell and hit my head. The...
Bassattacker, I hate to be the wet blanket but I don't think those plans/steps will result in a stand of nwsg's. The tilling will only enourage more weeds to start growing, it won't kill the fescue, the cover crop is not something one wants for nwsg's. There will be to much thatch in the disked...

Lucky13, you are an outlier in the world of landowners. Thanks for sharing the hunting heritage.
You're correct the revenue issue cuts both ways but I believe it will be much deeper on the negative side. Especially after the herd gets knocked down, license sales will plummet. Hughes doesn't...

Lawmakers clash over bill that would give some landowners special rifle hunting season for deer
That's the headline in the Omaha...
Thank you Hardwood.
What have you noticed on your properties? I realize the one is relatively new to you so you haven't had time to get much of an idea? What's your guesstimate?
I have been running a survey since Jan. 1. My corn piles coincided perfectly with the bad cold snap.
Farm one, 80 acres located on backside of Missouri River bluffs, 50/50 timber/pasture and corn/beans
Of the 8 bucks that were 3.5 and older seen on my property since Oct 1, three of those got...
