    Best $30ish trail camera

IMO - Not knocking your plan, but more money spent on more cheap cameras will just arm you with more cheap cameras failing.. I'd rather have 2 Reconyx cameras than 10 cheap cameras that work some of the time, missing some of the movement and fail on a regular basis. My .02..

    Shade tolerant switch?

All varieties need 6+ hours of sun to really thrive. 50 yards wide is enough to provide close to that for a portion of the planting. If they don't get the sun they need, they will not thrive. And will not get close to the typical height they would in full sun.

    frost seeding

Tried a couple of times with a clover mix, no alfalfa ever came up. IMO - I'd seed the traditional route if looking to establish much of a stand.

    Screening food plots with switch

RC Sundance is a cross between Sunburst and Cave n Rock. Might be well suited for those in upper Iowa. Supposed to be extremely tall, similar to RC BR.. I would bet however, that RC Big Rock is still a lot quicker out of the ground.. Still better for early summer plantings. But I've...

    Screening food plots with switch

Have a few options.. but likely going to wait for a couple years to evaluate. Trees are going to be more broken down and it may lose some of it’s structure. I also didn’t do any weed control so I have dirty switch. Ragweed, Goldenrod, Foxtail etc mixed in. I’m not super worried about the...

    Screening food plots with switch

I had this exact scenario, as my wooded edge was too "open" to see into the field. Hunter access, limited buck use in food plot both factors I wanted to improve. - Year 1: I established switchgrass on a 15 yard buffer along the hard edge along the woods. - Year 2: Edge feathered. Dropped...

    Food plot thoughts?

IMO - 2 food plots of that size, on opposite ends is fine for 90 acres. Generally speaking, I do prefer fewer plots as they do concentrate the deer, and make hunting easier. If a guy has 4-5 plots on the same acreage, that would not be my preference. Another good strategy is to add a small...

State forestry vs mossyoak nativ nurseries

Cold Stream Farm is better than both IMO for bare root seedlings. I’ve gotten a few items from Nativ over the years with mixed results. The plastic bags they ship everything in tend to mold the plants and roots pretty bad. If you don’t get in the ground immediately they won’t survive...

    Cull buck pics

Big 4.5 YO. Dominant buck on our farm. Passed him at 3.5 last year as a 7 point, curious how he would change.. Guess I got my answer. Same frame but lost a point.. Thankfully the neighbor just shot him last week :)

    Your best bedding areas?

Fire will kill small cedars. Cedar (live or dead) goes up in flames very easily. Cedar will self prune lower limbs in the shade, losing its cover value. Scattered cedars with access to the sun provide the best benefit.

    Deer #’s down statewide???

Opens too many other issues. Disease transfer, etc. Better to fix the root of the cause vs. a band aide fix on the back end. More intervention is not the cure IMO.

    Deer #’s down statewide???

About the same amount of "science" used by the CDC the last 4 years..
