    .350 Legend

.350 has put the hammer on every deer my brother has shot, does and a mature buck all were down very quickly. I got one on the AR platform myself for next season.

    Barnes Spitfire MZ bullets

Never had one not expand with a polymer tip, on any bullet for that matter. Barnes or V-max. They've expanded on every one. Often times I find the blue tip inside the deer at some point

    Barnes Spitfire MZ bullets

I swear by Barnes with the blue tip, never shot the particular ones you've got. Some bloodtrails have been good, some not as much. I don't aim for the shoulder any more though. Two reasons, I've seen it not drop a deer which resulted in an unrecovered deer since no vitals were impacted. Deer...

Anyone else seeing more Varmints than usual?

Fur prices suck - not nearly as many trappers - way more critters around. Coons are so thick, going to still stack them up here to hopefully help lower the #s going into nesting season. Then there will be just as many around again by next fall. Mother Nature is great at filling any voids we...

Youth Hunter Tactics, goals, ideas, etc???

I personally would do whatever was exciting to my kid. Keep it exciting for them and the rest will come together over the years. If you press them to hunt or hold them to your own goals/standards, good chance you can take some excitement away from them. Let them define their own goals and how...

“Hunting shows” - net positive or negative?

Learned a TON from watching Drury videos growing up - used to look forward to buying all three of their new DVDs every year. That stopped about 15 years ago roughly. I just don't take the time to watch much for hunting videos any more. Rather go out and do it in person vs sit infront of a...

    tree tube posts/stakes

If the top folds over before the tree has grown out the top the tree will die. It has no room to grow up anymore. I've also seen the tops of the tubes folder over after the tree has already grown outside of the tube, above the top. They're pretty flimsy those first few weeks once they grow...

    tree tube posts/stakes

I've used bamboo, white oak, plastic and metal conduit, rebar, and T-post. T-post were my favorite. Rebar was second. Just don't go too short, the top of the rebar (IMO ) should be just under 6" from the top of the tube. Too tall and it'll rub on the new growth and could kill the tree once...

    Oust XP

Yup, supppppppper powerful stuff. Knocks back grass and some weeds extremely well. It amazes me how little of those granules it takes in a backpack sprayer to be effective. You can possibly save some money and get Spyder XP from Keystone Pest Solutions online Side story: I once had some...

DEAR OTHER MIDWEST DEER STATES….. From: Iowa

I could see where western NE the weather factor is definitely true. We always say we have to police ourselves even with IA's regulations. If we wanted as a family we could shoot a dozen bucks a year, probably all over 140 every single year. But we'd soon struggle to find bucks over 150 and...

DEAR OTHER MIDWEST DEER STATES….. From: Iowa

Gun hunters may take it personally taking the gun season out of the rut but in a few short years I think they'd realize the gain to be had for all hunters, including themselves. IA gun hunters kill world class bucks every year and it's part to the timing of the season. Putting a gun season in...

    Thermal scope

AGM Rattler 35 - best deal IMO! I've got a Hogster R35, very similar scope but doesn't have onboard recording. The AGM does. Last suggestion - spend a ton of time at the range shooting at hot hands at 50, 100, 150yds at night. You'll save yourself a ton of frustration and educating coyotes.

Toxic waste muck hole turned into a nice pond!!!!

Nice work Skip! I read that as 77 acres at first and thought "this is Skip... so that's realistic". haha Sweet little pond, definitely going to be a fun one for the family!

    Shotgun Red Dot Sights

I put the cheapest Tru-Glo red dot "tube" style on my turkey shotguns. Usually $40-50. Love them! They're on four of our guns and take shots from 3.5" 12g over and over, never missed a beat.

    New shotgun for turkey hunting

I love my old Mossberg. I don't get too carried away with the weapon on turkeys, just put a cheap red-dot on it and put it on their head. Love turkey hunting but it seems like it's not a complicated game. At least gun hunting them - bow hunting them is another deal!

HSB 157 Using dogs while fur harvesting

So no letting coyote hounds run free anywhere? I like this. I get dogs don't know fencelines but we've seen people very intentionally letting their dogs on to areas they know they aren't supposed to be and going to the other end of the section just waiting. Hopefully those who have dogs that...

    Coyote problem

Nailed it here - really the only benefit to killing them is the timing of when you're doing it. Best done during fawning/nesting seasons. Or if you've got some ruining a food plot you like to deer hunt. Honestly, you'll never put a dent in the population long term. I've long given up on...

    That's a shockingly low number - wow!

    HF 22 Black bear hunting

Yup, one random one comes down to IA last year. People flock to see it like it. Someone hears it isn't protected and could be shot legally, they want it protected. They propose a law change. Just my guess at how this unfolded.
