How about a pull behind flail mower? I was considering one to terminate cover crops when I was in my Regenerative plotting phase .

    MINERAL TO PUT OUT NOW…

Has anyone tried putting it in some kind of tub making it easy to leave no trace for hunting season? If I'm reading the Iowa laws correctly you can't hunt withtin 200 yds of a mineral site unless it's cleaned up. That makes it difficult for a small property guy to run mineral. Deer seem to...

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

I should have state 33% have below average genetics, 33% average genetics, and 33% have above average genetics. In my opinion, 2 in 10 at best have the genetics to hit 180 in Iowa but I hope I'm wrong.

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

A couple of guys from MN made posts about tag sharing and CWD areas. True, you can shoot more than one buck when party hunting, but, there are still only 5 buck tags for a group of 5 guys, so technically one buck tag. However, in CWD kill zones, you can shoot 3 bucks I believe...

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

I think biologists would argue that 50% of IA bucks could go 180”. Roughly 33% of bucks are below average, 33% average, and 33% above average. What would you guys say an average buck would score in Iowa? In my experience in North MO, it would be closer to 145". Even if it’s 160” in IA, which I...

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

True a guy can shoot multiple bucks, but a hunting party of 5 can still only tag 5 bucks. Yes, some guys are cheating and filling granny Myrtle's tag, but the impact is minimal.

Good point about SEMN being 3 bucks. That said, it is still the best area in the state for giant bucks because the population is strong enough to overcome the pressure on them. .

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

Minnesota is a 1 buck state.......and is garbage. This thread is about GIANT bucks, not just big or mature as stated in some posts. Only 3 in 10 bucks have what it takes to become a giant. The deer density has to be high enough to overcome the pressure on the high potential bucks.

I agree with damn near all you stated, except cell cams. I 100% agreee that an increase in population is the solution. Heck, I solved it on post #7 of this thread, haha! Cell cams on the other hand, absolutely kill bucks and absolutely contribute to high grading. Too many examples of it...

Well that is grim! How bad has EHD hit your area? Hunting pressure? It doesn't take much hunting pressure to high grade an area between EHD and killing young studs.

    Early rut

Here's Steve Bartylla's theory he posted on Facebook a week or so ago. "So, yesterday, we shared a photo sequence of a buck glued to a doe's tail, on Sunday, moments before my close, young friend, Parker, shot him. I mentioned I get into that more today. What I'm about to cover does NOT apply...

You NAILED IT!! I'm even a trophy hunter that hardly ever kills anything anymore, LOL!!! I don't blame others though, I expect them to shoot 3 and 4 year old studs. Why wouldn't they? I'm the idiot! They other day a buddy told me it was odd why my North MO farm has gone downhill the last...
