alfalfa question

I have a 3 acre plot that we have planted with various seeds over the years. This year its soybeans. I'm thinking of planting alfalfa because every spring is busy and hectic to get plot in. My question is how many bales would I get and is it worth the money to plant. The lane in could also get planted 50ft by quarter mile. I assume deer would eat the alfalfa just as well as other plants. Thanks any advice is appreciated.

Yes, but alfalfa requires quite a bit of maintenance and care. Personally I like to work with a local farmer on alfalfa.

I have heard over and over "alfalfa likes to be cut". Most farmers get 3 or 4 cuttings per year on straight alfalfa fields, I believe, which is obviously dependent on rain/weather. I have seen many deer in alfalfa fields over the years.
