Big Bucks in the open

While pheasant hunting this weekend with 4 friends I got within 15 yards or so of a nice 150 class ten pointer. I had just looked over to one of my friends and said "Man, this would be a great spot to jump a big buck" and no sooner had I said this the brush exploded and up jumped that big boy. Year after year, I see the biggest bucks while I am pheasant hunting along the draws and weed patches in the open country......now only if they'd stick around and come by my stand.

I will agree with with you on that! The majority of the big bucks I see in southwest iowa are in open terrain like on terraces and fence lines. I spot and stalked a 181" ten pt. last year in a picked bean field laying below a terrace. shot him from 7 yds. they don't get that big by being stupid! good luck on your season
