Big Muddy's

I know Thousands of homes and businesses have been destroyed and this isnt the most important but i thought id throw this out there.

Down here in Burlington the Mississippi is obviously coming up fast. The owner of this business and SEVERAL other people built a 8 foot wall around this Restaurant to hopefully hold off the water. Last night the water got up to 5 feet high around the 8 foot wall and they knew it wouldnt last long. They had several leaks and kept on getting them fixed but finally at 10:30 p.m. last night the wall gave in. It was an ugly scene. The sandbag and concrete wall was almost up to that green awning in the picture and the Big Muddy's sign in the picture is now completely under water and its supposed to rise another 2 feet by wednesday. The owner of the business said hes not rebuilding, he's done. Very bad situation because it was one of the best places to eat\drink in Burlington.

First the town I currently live in, Iowa City, gets flooded, now my hometown, Burlington, is feeling the wrath. I can't make it to work in C.R. because of 380 closing, so I'll be heading to Btown tomorrow to help out with the sandbagging effort.

I was driving home from Michigan last night, had to detour back through Illinois because I-80 was closed East of Iowa City, the Cedar was over the friggen high-way!

The only way I could get home was to make it to the Burlington Bridge from the Illinois side. As I drove accross the bridge - I saw Big Muddies under-water! The view of downtown Burlington was jaw-dropping!

If you haven't lost everything with this flood be thankful. Many people have!

Our shop is in downtown Burlington and its built up a little higher than all the other building which are under water. Our building is 2 inches from being flooded out. Suppose to raise another 10 inches by wednesday. We have a wall built and we are pumping 50 gallons of water per second out of the basement. But its still not keeping up. The whole shop will probably be under water when i get to work in the morning. I was there 16 hours straight trying to help get stuff done. Im going to bring the camera in the a.m. and take some pics. Probably wont look good.

Between the lock and dam 19 at Keokuk and the Keokuk bridge to Illinois.

Aim-n-High...you have fished pool 19 some I'm sure you have taken a boat under the old railroad bridge there...the water is now passing over the tracks and the main Iowa/Illinois bridge is to be used only in emergency.

Some of my co-workers from Illinois are sleeping in camping trailers on the Iowa side to get to work.

The owner of Big Muddy's was on the news this morning with his family. He says, he plans on keeping the resteraunt and running it. He said he wouldn't of built the wall around it if he hadn't planned on returning.
